TBC's could be used to do the same thing, just go to high performance coatings web site, I think is http://www.hpcoatings.com

It doesn't matter that the Turbo's intake charge is hotter, because with the insulators there's still less heat being transfered into the manifold and hence to the intake air. Much more heat goes into the manifold from the engine than from the intake air, particularly if you have a decent intercooler.

For those who haven't read the Autospeed article on phenolic spacers, click here.

they have been doing this spacer thing to v-8's forever.
But i dont think they would be good for us, BECAUSE our engine make all there power up in the high R's, and these spacers would be making the intake manifold longer. Longer intakes are more for torque, somthing that our engines doesnt have anyway. By changing the length of the intake runners, you can tune where that 'natural supercharging' effect comes on. If you put a spacer in, it will come on earlyer, but you will have less up top. I would want more up top, since im up in the R's all the time for the auto-xing and open track stuff i do.

That's why you would have the option of buying one or not. As I said, no one is beign forced tobuy these.

That's a good article NZ Convertable.

I dunno, maybe I'll just isolate this to FB's for now. It seems that you all want proof that they work on an actual RX-7 first, because dyno sheets from other cars aren't enough. Our engines may be different, but they still don't like heat just like any other engine.

If that doesnt' work, I'll make my own.

Bump becaue I think this is important... We are talking about a 1/4" or less thick spacer, something that really is not going to effect intake runner length.

.. I've yet to see Phelonic material under a shore D of 92.. ( very hard plastic ). Your either going to have to do that pain in the *** lapping to smooth out both sides so it seals ( have to do this with my 7M and the HKS head gaskets! phfft! ), or your going to have to use a gasket on both sides of the 'spacer' to seal it, gasket maker won't stick to the pelonic material like it would to the pourous iron or aluminum. I have yet to check out this URL though so they have some fancy new mateiral they are using.. but I don't think so, I've seen the latest phelonics for use by GE in the assembley jigs of fuel cores for reactors.. hard stuff!
