Thumbs down A New Idle issue

Ok.. So I haven't had this issue before..

Previously when i started my 87 NA itd do the 3k startup then i'd get a bit of a TPS thing.. it'd drop about a thousand rpm to 1000 above... i'd hit the gas and it'd get over itself and be fine the rest of the day i drive it.. no matter how many times i had to start it...

NOW.. when i start my seven it does the 3k start up.. then comes down to 1k rpm and rhythmically go from 500 rpm to 1500 rpm.. give it gas it revs and then comes back down and does this some more.. it does this only in Neutral or Park. Driving it seems perfectly fine.. if i idle at a stop light i idle like normal.. the idle issue seems to get worse the colder it gets...

i simply dont get it.. we've owned 3 sevens and this is the first to do this...

is this a tps issue? thermawax? i'm so close to using this car for parts for the other seven.. my gold RX-7 is my love.. and its my baby.. but it needs a heater core and for some reason my rear calipers wont release my emergency brake.. and i need a paint job..

Have you inspected for vacuum leaks? I was having this problem and while looking at my TID I noticed that the hole where my bypass valve had been was unplugged and letting in alot of unmetered air. Once that was plugged I had no more troubles. You'll probably hear much the same thing from alot of people here. Have you checked your TPS out using the procedure in the FSM?

It does it when cold, eh? Maybe something's not tightened all the way down and when the car warms up (and things begin to expand) it's sealing up better. That's probably a bit off-the-wall, but I dunno...

Here's what it's doing exactly..

Start up cold. 3k rpm startup, warms up for like 15 seconds, and idles down

as soon as it hits below 1500 rpm, it starts to 'cycle' between 1500-2000..

It's not like the TPS 'hunt'.. It's hard to describe..

If I dont figure it out, I'll take a video of it and post it on my web site and maybe someone else can figure out wth it's doing..

My car was running perfect until about 8 months ago, then I started having bad Idle problems. The car would run fine when I was driving. At idle, it would do the 'hunt' from 1000 to 500, then would eventually stall. I recently had ALL the vacuum hoses replaced. Now I have no more idle problem.
Some of the hoses may LOOK good, but if they have become hard (which happens over time), then they no longer fit tightly.
One other thing... it is a pita to remove all the hoses. I would get it done by a shop. Even if this doesn't solve the problem, at least you now have new hoses that will last a long time.

Mine does it all the time no matter how many times I adjust the tps. Hey goldrx-7 is your car automatic or stick?

Sounds just like the vacuum leak I had a few months ago. It turned out to be my purge control valve, which is just about the last thing I checked. As far as I know high RPM hunting is due to a large vaccum leak

Question Idle Issue Update

So I drove the car today..

it was 60 degrees out.. Start the car.. it does its lil start up .. hits 800rpm and idles. perfectly idles.

I drive it.. it drove like a dream.. i park it.. it idles...

i havent had that much fun in that car in a long time..

but what on earth is goin on?

could this still be a vacuum issue?
