new fuel rails.... can i half *** an an fuel line?

theres this shop in my town that is making custom cnc machined fuel rails for the fc...there very very nice. in time i think he is going to start selling them. one thing though. you will have to use an- style fittings and stainless steel lines. no problem since i already have some extra fuel lines. but i dont want to do a full fuel system (to the tank) in stainless steel as i dont have that much money. i was thinking could i use the an- fittings just to go from the rails ( as i would have to) and when the lines reach the fuel filter and return line just clamp them on with a couple clamps? can that work?....unless you can do somekind of custom fitting for an an- end on the fuel filter line?hopefully this makes since.

dude.... 6-an line will fit onto the stock fuel system.. especially if you double clamp it. I have -6an line in my engine bay that runs to the stock in line and mates perfectly, just clamp it right behind the bump in the line. for the return line, I cut the hard line off where it 90's off the fire wall and then used a flaring tool to make a slight flare on the line and double claped it.. no leaks!!

There is no point in using -an line if you do not use the appropriate fittings they were designed for. All you will end up doing is poking countless little holes in your fingertips and not get any of the benefits of ss line. Plus it looks ghetto with hose clamps imho (don't even mention that Spectre crap either)

The do make what they call -an to hardline adapters. You will need a flare tool with the correct angled flare (37 degrees I believe) to make it work. That is what I did on mine and it works like a charm.
Summit is about the best place for them.

that's pretty sexy. Nothing like some nice clean quality SS lines with earls fittings to match

Although you can probably half *** your fuel lines and get it to work...fuel system is not something to cheap out on. Save a little and spend the extra dough to do it right the first time. When things are half assed, it'll stay 'incomplete' in your head and you will probably wind up redoing it and spending more cash in the future to do it the right way.

Ahhhhhh BlackR1.... you are using a 3rd gen UIM Correct?? Doesn't seem like a TII UIM will clear the fittings beside the k2rd fuel rail.

I think you meant me as that is a pic of my engine.
Yes I am using a 3rd gen uim on a S5 lim. You are correct in assuming the S4 or S5 uim would not fit with how those lines are run.
I ran them that way, particularly the inleet to the secondary, to make more room to squeeze my hands around in that area if needed.

I think you guys are talking overkill.

I think Russell's makes these "socketless" fittings and hose that do not use the expensive AN fittings.
These are just threaded fittings (NPT?) on one end and a barbed end on the other side.
You just slip on the appropriate sized hose and use a regular band clamp.

aderson34 - Tom at RotaryRX just pick those fuel rails up for me. They are sweet! This thread will help us get them in production without leaks.

ReTed - you are always the practical one with the short answers . Thanks!

I'll post some pics next week.
