New to the FC world.

Yep, I got my FC in December, the engine and transmisson were both just rebuilt about a year ago at a Mazda dealership, the owner had the paper work to prove it. I've lerked here for sometime I just decided to join. I only have two questions remaining, I've been searching and reading for quite some time.

My first question is, on start up while its cranking over, it sounds like it has low compression, I'm going to get it tested this weekend. I suspect I may need spark-plugs and possibly plug wires, purely because of the fact that when I let off the gas at +6k RPM's and the car gets to about 2k-3k RPM's it pops 3-7 times sounding almost like its running rich. I have already changed all the fluids in the car also.

Second question, I know rotarys burn oil, but is it common to have visable smoke as much as I am haveing? (See vid.)

Heres a video of it running.

Thanks is advance guys.

I'm behind a firewall that prevents me from seeing the vid. In general, you should expect some smoke when the engine is cold. The more miles on the motor, the more smoke. It should gradually diminish as the car warms up.

As long as you're not using more than 1 qt./1000 miles, you're OK. If you're using more, the big issue is getting through emissions.

It's probably the fuel injectors leaking and washing away lubrication of the apex seals causing low compression on startup and wearing out the apex seals. Then the extra fuel burns in the exhaust and that's what makes the popping probably.

Have the injectors serviced, this flooding can cause premature apex seal wear and carbon build up.

I watched the video and you got nothing to worry about with the smoke on start up. That is typical for a rotary. As long as it burns off and goes away like it is doing after a few seconds of running.

Damn that must have been pricey for that other guy. New engine and tranny. The smoke seems normal since the rotary does run rich as hell anyways. Some have flames coming out stock Would also help to see all that was replaced. Shortblock? Any extras changed since they usually don't change anything but the plugs and bare block with gaskets.

Maybe adjust the damper on the back of the tb to let it lower more quickly than stopping around the 2500 rpm range. Its a little mushroom shape part that has a white rod in it and when the throttle shuts closed it slows it so it doesn't go to low, but yours could be to high.
