New to the FC world!
hello all, in a matter of 3 or 4 days, as long as a mechanic says that everything looks good, i will be the new owner of a grey, 1987 GXL. it only has 87 thousand miles on it. it has a few minor problems that i can see already, needs a new exhaust (no problem) it needs a new heater core i think (still not really a biggy), and eventually will need a new passenger side door, kid was DWI and banged it into a bank. IF anyone here is in the Litchfield Connecticut area, and knows rx-7s very well and could look over it for me, i would be so much more comfortable. just not sure if my local mechanic can handle the 13b and all her goodies!!!
i have great plans for her if it checks out, im not a fan of those huge body kits, or any of that. Im all about the ballance, with a clean look. i have already read the faq, so if i repeat something i appologize. just dont flame to hard well i guess thats all i really have at the moment, oh yeah and im picking it up for 2 grand. so we shall see how it goes!
Peace out all
Zak

Welcome to the boards.
It's an 87, which means series 4 which means that it would have an LSD. Furthermore it would be a clutch type LSD. All s4 GXLs and T2s have clutch LSDs. Series 5 however (89-91) only have a viscous type LSD in the GTU-S, TurboII, and a few randoms. The lsd question is asked in the FAQ.

Welcome! Make sure you take it to a competant rotary mechanic for any engine work. You will be sorry if you don't. Or learn how to do it yourself.

Welcome. Get them pics up when you get it. Be ready to be the mechanic, beause you will spend lots of money on this car fixing problems and just making it look and drive nice. Unless you got money then dont worry. Well, good luck to you man.

i already talked him down from 2800, to 2 grand. not a big deal for me really if i get it checked out and there are a few more problems that are to be had. then i will lower the price again. just incase the apex seals are shot, any thought no how long or how hard it is to replace?
Thanks

ok quick question... So I tore the rear end out of a 87 GXL (I think GXL) and I wanna check if it is LSD is there any way to tell it is or not from looking at the rear diff?
Sorry to be slightly off topic and congrats on the new 7... I hope it all works out well for you cuz they rock ***
ok this s from FAQ
Did my 2nd Gen RX-7 come with a Limited Slip Differential?
Only the following USA model 2nd gen RX-7s had a LSD from the factory:
86-88 GXL
87-91 T2
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs (however not the 89-90 GTU)
It is also rumored that a few rare 91 coupes with both the A (upgraded the interior trim, added a power sunroof, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, and 4 piston front disc brakes and vented single piston rear brakes) and the B package (leather seating, a CD player, and rear cargo cover) came with a LSD, but you should note that Mazda denies that any FC other than the T2 came with a LSD in 91). You can also tell by looking at the differential as there will be a LSD tag on S4 cars with a LSD.
What will the TAG look like?
looked att rear diff I have and I don't see a tag... just looks very similar to my 91 NA rear end.
Thank you
