New to family, bring some stupid question.
Hi,guys. I just get a 1991 RX7 GXL model few days ago, have 92k miles on it currently.
I had check the FAQ many times. But still have some question, hope you guys help.
Can I use mobil1 10w-30 motor oil for my 91 non-turbo model, any what you guys using?

You can, but I'd recommend somethin like 20w-40. That's what I use. Also, these cars are real touchy about wether or not you use synthetic oil or not. Mine hates it, but my friends loves it. Go fig. If you use synthetic and your car all the sudden starts smokin like james bond threw on the smoke screen, go back to non-synth.

I am the stig.
I use Castrol GTX 20w-50 in my 87 NA, and it's what I see recommended most of the time. The user manual specifies different weights of oil for different operating climates. Warmer climates use heavier oil.
The general feeling on synthetic vs dino (natural) oil is the synthetic is unnecessary. I've read that cheap synthetic oil has some nasty stuff in it which could... do something bad?... to your engine. (The high millage additives too.) Good quality synthetic is fine. (Redline, Royal Purple)
Just change every 3000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Mazda OEM filters are the best, FRAM is CRAP. (So I've read, I never noticed a difference. But hey it's cheap insurance... it's like 2 bucks difference.)

People generally stay away from synthetics on rotaries because your engine will be burning your crankcase (I suppose it's called ecentriccase) oil. Synthetics, although great as a friction reducer, do not excel in burning cleanly from your cumbustion chamber. In other words, unless you remove your OMP, don't use it.

Yes, that's great stuff. As the FAQ says, that synthetic is fine to use.
I'm using Royal Purple 10w30.
FAQ has list of recommended oils, which I'm sure you've seen. As for weight, go with 10w30 or 20w50, depending on your region (FAQ also has temperature ranges). Beyond that and keeping your oil topped off, getting fancy doesn't make a huge difference unless you expose your car to extreme conditions (track days, arctic weather, etc., etc.). Synthetics will also reduce wear which - if I understand correctly - helps maintain compression. But rotaries usually fail from an overheat or some such sudden thing, not wear.

You can use it, but like other synthethic oils, it's really a waste of money unless you are racing the car on the track. Synthetic oil is a better deal when used in the transmission and differential where it is good for 30,000 to 60,000 miles. I recommend Castrol GTX for the engine, using the weight specified in the Mazda service manual for the weather conditions in your area.
