OK, talked to my buddy that helped me install this and we need to know: If you remove the slave cylinder, should there be free play in the throw out bearing arm? He's wondering if that arm is binding, because the flywheel was not glazed and the pressure seemed good when we tightened up the pressure plate.

nope, I have the slave cylinder off right now and that arm is tight. It's not releasing completely on the input shaft. it's very tight, should have some wiggle to it

Well, I'm convinced either the throw out arm in jacked or the throw out bearing is hung up on the pressure plate. I remember there's an access hole with a plug at the bottom on the tranny, can I get a look at it thru there and maybe see what is going on?

even if for some reason you don't replace the throwout bearing you should always check that it moves and spins freely before tossing the transmission back in..
