Question New Cat

Today I installed a bonez dual cat and the racing beat cat-back on my '88 se.

When I started the car, it smelled (I hear this is normal with a new cat) but also some black smoke was coming from both ends of the cat. Is it from the gasket or cat breaking in or do I have a problem?

Both ends of the cat? The smell is normal. Check for leaks and after a week or so things should settle in.

There will typically be dust and debris in the exhaust system from the factory that will take some time to burn off and blow out.

If the car sounds right and you don't have exhaust leaks around the cat, I would guess it's just stuff on the outside of the cat burning off - oil from production, grease from your hands, whatever. Cats get *REALLY* hot.
