New battery, no power?

I searched but nothing similar to my problem.

This morning I tried to start the engine and the battery was real slugish, it almost cranked but not enough juice. I had the switch on for a long time while connecting the new radio. So I tried to jump start it with my truck...the engine turned over a few times, but still real slow. I re-positioned the cables but then nothing happened. I got a new battery from the store and hooked it up, but nothing happens.

The lights work, when I turn the key, the power goes down for a second (at the gauge), I can hear the pump on the back of the car come on when the key is all the way forward. I can hear a click like something is coming on but no power. The car has the factory anti-theft system. I do not know if it works but this is my first guess. The car ran fine yesterday.

Check the ground from the battery to the motor, unbolt it and scrape the cable end and goop it up with dialectric grease. Same with battery terminals. Might wellbe a bad ground,
Mike

I guess I'll check all the cables for loose connections. I thought that maybe the security system is malfunctioning and preventing the car from starting. I have a remote start button, I'll try that too.

Well, I checked cables and connections everywhere and no luck. I took the starter to Advance Auto and got it tested and it worked great. Installed it on the car and it worked for 2 seconds.
I hooked up the remote start button and put my hand on the starter and I could feel something moving inside the starter. I purchased another starter for $79 and problem solved....

Now my alternator is not charging...only 12 volts...so much for my $900 dollar daily driver RX7. Hopefully after the alternator everything would be fine.

The alternator remans be old. Fortunately swapping is easy. Save your warranty and be prepared for 1 or more redos, unless you get lucky. I've had a bad alt short out a battery before so maybe that happened to you. If you see funky stuff happening to the volts (besides a normal failure) just disconnect the thing until you get a replacement, or you might have more to replace.
