new 87 TII looking for some help.

I just got an 87 TII, and it’s been sitting around for about 8 years now. Of course it doesn’t start, but I’m thinking it’s just flooded. It only has 40k on it though, and the interior is in great shape for a car this old. This is my first rotary, and I’m very excited to get started. But anyways I’ve been doing a lot of reading, and here's the list of stuff that i think i need to do first. Can you let me know if you think i'm on about the right track?

I already bought a new battery and plan on running a compression test -(is this accurate info) in the next day or two to see whether I need to buy a rebuild kit. I’m just praying to the car gods that it’s above 80psi. And if it is the next steps for me are:

Replace fuel filter, belts, and the spark plugs look shot so those too. Exhaust is rusted to hell, so I’m thinking about getting the REV-TII turbo back.

Does this all sound about right?
Thanks for your help.

looks like ur on the right track.
if u want to try and start it pull out the egi fuse (in the engine bay, the one on the far left its pink) then crack it for 2 or 3 times for about 5 seconds. put it back in and try to start it. if it doesnt start then you might wanna check out your fuel system. and the compression test is a very good idea. dont waste your money on anything else before you do that.
good luck!

Put a few teaspoons of oil(not atf) into the lower spark plug holes before trying to start her(will help seal properly and build compression.) Also it would be a great idea to clean out the fuel tank and fuel lines since shes been sitting for 8 years. But yeah, seems like your heading in the right direction. Best of luck and keep us updated. - Nick

I would replace all the rubber fuel lines (~$5 for what you need). I'd also have a peek inside the tank to see what condition it's in. I bought mine and it was down for quite a while and the baffles inside the tank were rusted through.

...lucky you there's a drain plug for the tank...

I cringe at the thought of eight year old gas.

I would replace the plugs and change the oil (wouldn't hurt to prime the system at this point). The rest I would do after the car is running so at least you know it starts and doesn't need a rebuild.

Good luck.

where could i buy new fuel lines? is that something that specific to a car or is it pretty generic, and as far as i know the line runs up the driver side strut tower, right?

that's a great writeup of things to check and do when taking a car out of storage that wasn't stored properly. I would give it a read.

also if you get the racingbeat REV-TII exhaust, make sure you get your turbo's wastegate ported. or you'll boost to high and blow you turbo, engine, or both.

good luck

that is a great read. very helpful thanks. since getting the car i have read it many times.

so the compression test tonight was a bit inconclusive.. i'm hoping that the reason why i only had 30psi in the front housing is because i had the wrong tools or i made some stupid mistake because i had little light and it was freezing out. i'm going back out tomorrow with the right tools.
