needdd help, car burns alot of gas

I just bought an rx7 a couple days ago and i only know a little bit about rotary engines. I was just wondering how come my car burns so much gas. I used up about half a tank of gas in about a 20-25 minute drive. I know i have to replace the exhaust system....could that be the problem? Any help would be appreciated.Thx guys.

1988 gxl. It gets MAYBE 220 on a full tank, and that's if i don't rev it past 3000. If you're driving it race car style (and who doesn't like doing that..?) your MPG is going to go down.

'91 GTU and I get 240/250 miles to the tank and that's with my agressive driving (redline a lot, rarely shift at 4k or below unless there's traffic).

I call bs...

There was never a 91 gtu. 91 models were either coupe nonturbo, coupe turbo, or convertible.

Maybe your car needs a tune-up, possibly clogged air filter which would cause a rich running condition, tire pressures, weight in the car, are your secondaries wired open because that would decrease fuel milage right? Maybe Oxygen O2 sensor. Even if you don't buy a rotary for gas milage who wants to drive with 5 mpg when you could 20s+mpg. Just my $0.2 cents.

I drive an 1989 Convertible and manage to pull 250 miles per tank, even while driving a paper route....

I'm well aware of that fact; still doesn't change my gas milage. The '91 n/a coupe is pretty much a GTU with some GXL extras that came standard. That and the sticker on my rear windshield says IMSA/GTU so I'll stay with calling it a GTU.
