Need tips for installing oil rings w/viton seals

I'm rebuilding a turbo motor, and this is the first time I've attempted to use viton seals that come with the rotary aviation kit. Every other time I used stock rubber seals. I've read that the viton seals were much more difficult to install, but this is pissing me off cause I broke 3 of the outer metal rings trying to install them with viton seals inside. I tried lubing them with engine oil and vaseline. I tried like the manual says and use another metal ring to press down on top. I tried using a flat piece of particle board and the seals won't go in the rotors. The rings go in bythemselves, but with the seals inside, they won't go in. Does anyone have any tips for how to install these things? If not, I'm throwing these ******* pieces of ***** in the ******* trash and getting stock seals.

i didnt have much trouble with mine. we just used rediculous amounts of vascalene when installing them. we also had two people installing them, one person pushing down on each side of the ring with a block of wood.

yeah, I heard vaseline works and I tried it, but I can't get any more vaseline in, on, or around the seals/rotor groove, and they still dont' fit together like they need to.

anyone have any useful input? I email Rotaryaviation and they said to put a board on top of the rotor to push the ring in. Tried that. I put the rotor on a board, put another board on top of the rotor and stand on it and it doesn't ******* work. I beat on the board with a rubber mallet, and I even put the rotors and shaft in the engine (without the apex or side seals) with all the housings and plates and tightened the engine up to squeeze the rings in place. Still didn't work. The rings go in fine by themselves, but not with the viton seals in them. WTF?

You should stop and use your calipers to measure the cross section of the o-rings. They may be the wrong diameter. Once you check the diameter then contact RA with the specs and see if the rings are the wrong size. There should not be that much force used to install

I just installed my atkins viton o-rings tonight. No problems at all.. Just be carefull. Never got them from RA. This is my second set of vitons that I have installed. Try using another oil control ring to help seat it.. Lay it on top and push..

my RA viton rings went in without too much forcing. the outter ones were noticably tougher to install than the inners though.
