How do you not know? It *could* be a concern but before you assume their non-availability, drop the sellers a line and ask.

Bought my Eibach's (and AGX's) from shox.com. TireRack seems to have them in-stock at $252.

Linear versus progressive has nothing to do with racing or driving stupid.
It's just a desciption of how the springs react.
Progressive is softer initially and firms up and you load the spring.
Linear is kinda self-explanatory.

Basically, the progressive rate springs give you a slightly softer, more luxurious ride until you load them up.

In reality, the transition from soft to firm can be a bit unnerving.
I used to have the Eibach Pro-Kits, and I hated them.
The linear rates springs are more predictable.

I'd recommend the linear ones unless you like to drive like grandma all the time...which, in that case, why bother upgrading suspension?

why bother upgrading. The suspension on the car is stock (i think its original). Car had like 76k when i got it. Now it has like 81k on them. Im not going to drive like grandma either. When ever i heard people using linear springs tehy are involved in some types of racing or SCCA type stuff.

IM looking into suspension techniques , does anyone have any comments on these?

"Linear springs" is a classification of a type of spring.
Yes, most racing springs are linear rate.
This doesn't mean you cannot run them on the street.

I dunno why you're getting so defensive about it.
I think you have a twisted notion on what springs you should be running.

What I mean about why upgrade is...
You bought KYB AGX's; they are overkill for stock replacements.
KYB GR2's would've been fine and about half as much as the AGX's.
If this is a purely street set-up, I'd be you adjust the KYB AGX's once (probably around the softest setting) and then never touch them again.
Again, I'm puzzled at what your intentions are and the reasons behind getting the AGX's, since they are conflicting (in my book).

I've been running KYB AGX's with Racing Beat springs for over 2 years now. I'm down here in Corpus Christi, TX and I guarantee our roads are just as bad as yours! When you drive on the street just soften the AGX's all the way and you'll be fine. As for the ST springs, they are linear and close to the same rates as the RB's, afaik.

Ted, I think thats exactly what he's looking for. I gather you've never driven in NYC...the roads are HORRIBLE. You can't even imagine. I think he's looking for something a little softer so that the bumps and potholes don't break his back. The progressive rate will be a little softer and more compliant initially, but will be a little harder on the big bumps to keep from bottoming out, breaking things, etc.

I think he wants to upgrade his suspension because his suspension is 15+ years old...thats good enough reason right there. Plus I would imagine he wants to lower the car slightly, if for nothing else, then simply for looks. Nothing wrong with that.

Sorry, but I don't buy it.
Here in Honolulu, I think we can top your horrible roads in NYC.
In fact, it was a major platform in the prior mayor's race!
The new mayor is trying his best to fix all the nasty roads!
I run a heavy spring rate on GC coilovers; I have to drive 3 miles to work everyday, and I'm dodging holes the whole time.
If I drive into one, it's enough to break your back!
There was one "pothole" on the FREEWAY that caused a tire puncture on an SUV that flipped the vehicle!
Beat that!

I don't find any of the aftermarket drop-in spring that much more harsh than the Eibach Pro-Kits.
If you can feel the difference, I'd be surprised.

A pothole by me ate a small child once. It was terrible.

Seriously though, if I had a digital camera I would take pics of my street in Manhattan, its horrendous. Keep in mind that the snow, ice, and salt really do a number on the roads here...nevermind all the trucks, etc. I wouldn't want to drive ANY lowered car in NYC, with linear or progressive springs.

I have the AGX's and Eibach Pro-kits springs. Even though they are 'progressive', they are definitely firmer than stock.

For anything more than spirited street driving, I would recommend linear rate stuff, the Eibach sport-kit, maybe.

I can feel that odd moment of the spring going from soft to firm and it is a little odd. Sometimes it seems like there is a moment when you aren't quite sure what is going on.

On the AGX's I played around with them for awhile and determined I like the fronts set to about 4 and the rears at 2.

You may not get much of a lowering effect. The stock springs have probably settled and sagged to the same point that the new springs are going to be at.

And, yes, we have really crappy roads, too. Especially in the city.

buy the racingbeat springs and be done with it . i like how they give the car a flat stance, as opposed to the back looking too high with the eibachs. they aren't killer on the street and IF you ever decided to track your car they are decent as well. oh and they are linear.

on a side note about hawaii roads, a friend of mine hit a pothole getting on the freeway in his newish setra se-r from Vineyard and blew BOTH driver side tires. ouchy.

HES DOESnt respond to email. It took 2 days for him to process my order and 6 days to be shipped. Its a lil slow for us guys over here on the east coast. Expect 8-10 days. Good quality stuff though.
