Need some help deciding whether to make a purchase.

So I am new to RX7s and need some advice. I am looking to purchase an 86 but it needs some work. It runs but the seller says it is not drivable due to the car having "an air flow problem and two injectors not firing." Any idea what these issues might be related to? Would it be a rather simple fix? If I can fix it on the spot it would save me the cost of getting it towed. I have not gone out yet to take a look at it. Let me know thanks.

An air flow problem might mean the air flow meter (AFM) is bad, which could be replaced for cheap. Hard to say what the owner means by that.

The injectors not firing could be a problem with them, the fuel supply, the wiring or the ecu.

Being that vague, it kinda sounds like the seller doesn't have a damn clue what they're doing or talking about.

Yea I agree. I doubt he came to that conclusion himself or if that is even an accurate description of the problem. Maybe someone took a quick look at it for him and he is just reiterating. Basically the info I have is:

-1986 (need to find out whether its base/gxl/turbo)
-the issues mentioned above: air flow prob and 2 injectors not firing
-everything is stock
-13b motor 73k original miles
-manual

Would this be a an okay buy for like 500$?

do some compression test before u buy it but for 500 it dosent get much cheaper

your not gonna get a decent engine till u start paying 1k +

Find out what the actual symptoms are rather than what he says is wrong with it. I.E. idles badly, no power in top end, etc... It could be something simple like a clogged cat which would make it a good deal.

And I agree that a compression test and possibly checking engine codes would be good ideas before buying.

For $500, assuming it's a 5 lug, it's pretty much a good deal, running or not. With that mileage on the engine, the internals are probably reusable ($$$), 5 lug swaps are worth something ($), transmission is probably decent ($), etc.
