Question Need some help...

I have a 1988 TII, slightly modded. The engine is one year newer (1989) and barely has 2,000 miles on it. After the new engine was installed, she ran like a champ. Now it seems that there is a loss of power and it jumps and jolts after 4 RPMs unless I push the clutch down about an inch from fully released. Then the jumping and jolting forward stops but there is no power. It also sounds like the turbo engages everytime you push down on the accelerator. The second problem I am having is when she is cold and I press down on the accelerator without moving, she starts to bog out on me. this usually stops after warm up. I was told that it may be the electronic ignition system. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. I have already check out a few threads to no avail, and also looked at aaroncakes website. thank you in advance.

Frustrated

I am not sure what you mean with this question but if you are talking computer management, it is the standard ECU. Does that help?

I am using the 88 one....The Mazda dealer said that there was no difference in the ECU for the 89...they said the only real difference was the water pump....plus it ran fine for over a year with no problems....could the ECU be the problem?

okay, you need to back too start here.

The 89+ motor has an electric MOP, that needs a 89+ ECU. It has spark timing that is different than the earlier models.

So...you either have a 89+ block and 88 everything else (intake-exhaust-Turbo-etc) and your timing is off slightly.

Or you are really screwed and have been running a 89 long block without a functioning MOP.

So once we figure out what you are really running, then we can go from there, but I suspect that it is probably a timing issue.

You have not done any other work recently on the car (like a new clutch or tranny or something...) right???

you are correct...I am running an 89 block with 88 everything else....I havent upgraded the tranny as of yet and the exahaust was upgraded with the old engine...so you think it could be the timing? How would I fix that?? That would be the crank angle sensor correct?

I would check timing first (and it's gonna be slightly off just because the ECU thinks the spark plugs are in slightly different spots).

Then if you can get timing close, but still having a problem, then I would check for a bad CAS.

I would also check to make sure the resistor orifice pellet is in the line running to the Boost sensor.
