AZ Need Seats!

My drivers side seat on my S5 T2 is blown out. Does anyone know of nice comfy seats that fit in the RX7 that won't break the bank and still look good? I need reclining seats... I would like original seats, but can't find any locally. So I was REALLY hoping I could make a junkyard run and find something that would fit with little to no modifications.

I have a momo start. It's not a recliner, but I really like it. If you're a bigger person it probably won't work for you though.

The Recaros from a Honda CRX are the best OEM seats I've ever used and the black with grey/red inserts are a excellent color match in a black interior/red exterior RX.

Unfortunately, no seat except the stock unit is very easy to install on the passenger side (and I'm not fond of mismatched seats).
Certainly, it can be done but tain't simple.

Why would the passenger side be more difficult?

Do you think the Honda seats can be found at a junkyard with any luck?

Remove your stock passenger seat and you'll see.

I pulled my first set of CRX seats from the yard (only $100 for the pair, excellent condition!) but that was an extremely unusual find in my experience.

Because of the transmission tunnel shape the passenger seat base is not symmetrical, the inner side is recessed up and canted at an angle.
The seat tracks are even offset front to back on each side (the trans tunnel side mounts further forward than the outer (sill) side.

The driver seat is totally symmetrical and quite simple to adapt to (except for possible seat height issues) but the passenger seat is a different matter.

If you want to install a matching set of seats, I'd recommend starting on the passenger side, just to see if it's possible/practical.
Much as I loved the CRX seats, without major surgery to the base structure I wasn't going to get the passenger side in properly, so I had to bid them adieu.

It was a sad and poignant moment.

Anybody here have/had Mazdaspeed seat in their FC (S5,if that matters)?

I dont think they have them in USA, so I guess I have to import them from Japan ? and most important is ... will it cost any fitment issue? cuz we have LHD here and Japan is RHD. the body is the same but is the brackets the same ? anybody know ?

I would imagine the seats would be the same either way?

Clokker, thanks for the explanation. I wouldn't have even thought of that being an issue....

So I'm back to square one.... Would it cost tons o money to re-upholster the stock seats from the leathery stuff to cloth?

Custom seat cover cost is wildly variable, as is quality.

It's certainly worth looking into because nothing will ever fit the car as well as the stock seat frame.

i remember when i was going to swap seats that the fc seat was wider than the one i was sticking in. although it could have been the seat itself but how knows. i just remember that was an issue. and i think the seats were out of an fb but not 100% on that one

this is what the passenger side bracket/mount looks like, you will never find a seat with the same bracekts

some people drill right into the floor, but the floor is very thin, the area the seats bolt into is reinforced.

Custom brackets are what you need

Those seats look nice

Seems to me though, that I'll be looking for a good set of stock ones locally, or re-upholstery.
