well, it'll work fine, but will be extremly loud! Also the auxillary ports wont be opening, which means you will loose some top end power.

oh ok.... I thought he meant if not having an exhaust will cause it to work worse, and not asking if thats the reason is working bad...
an example of how asking clear questions will give you clear answers.

Ok, sorry about that. The car has no exhaust on it at all right now and it won't stay running unless I keep my foot on the gas. When I do get it moving its like there is no power. So my question is, for a na rx7 can I have a straight through exhaust? Will it run like that or do I need all the cats? I'm gonna do some more research on other questions, but I'm just wondering about about the exhaust for now .

no problem. It sounds like you may have one dead rotor. (blown apex/side seals) Try doing a compression check, and maybe post your numbers. My friend had this happen to his 7, and it has similar symptoms as your has. I'm going to get the chance to rebuild my frist rotary, and it's not even mine!
As for your question about the exhaust, I have driven mine 20 or more kilometres with no exhaust at all, just the cast iron manifold and that was it, and it ran just as good or better than it did with the full exhaust. (I have my aux ports activated my the air pump for those wondering..)

1. Do a compression check.

2. My exhaust is manifold --> straight pipe --> y-pipe --> mufflers. So yeah, it'll work fine. My only problem is my 5/6th ports wouldn't open on their own (open all the time... not the best solution).

ok, the car does start, it feels like it is in 3rd when you are in first. The fastest i had it was 55 km, I didn't really want to push it, i'm not that smart with rotary motors

Yep, do a compression check. It sounds like you may have a blown rotor.

Not always, it all depends. There are other things that can cause it to run on one rotor (something uplugged for example) but a bad seal is the most common. You can get a piston compression tester and look for 3 even bounces on each rotor (prefferably at least to 80-85). One strong and 2 weak pulses mean a bad apex seal, while 3 weak pulses mean 2 or more mad seals. It could also be that the seals are stuck in place, but that usually still needs a rebuild to fix.
