Talking Need Input: can it be done?

N/A -> TII swap for 5 grand?

Here's what I'm thinking:

JDM S4 turboII front clip (engine, tranny, turbo, ya know): $1600
Shipping: (?) $400
Complete rebuild kit: $1100 (******* christ that's a lot of money for thin slices of metal and rubber that weigh less than a pound combined! )
RB Turboback exhaust system: $800
LHD wiring harness : hopefully no more than 50 bucks at a boneyard
Mazdatrix TII -> N/A driveshaft: $300
Labor: FREEEEE! (I'm doing it all meself)

Total: ~4250 so far. Hmm...

Anyone see any holes in this? things I might be missing? I'm hoping the ~750 bucks will cover any unforseen small problems that will arise. I'll use the TII hood that comes with the clip, unless I decide to grow some ***** and try to mount the stock intercooler up front, therefore keeping my nice smooth hood on there.

I'm also thinking I can make some money back by selling any good parts from the clip and my old engine that I won't end up needing personally. Maybe make a couple hunded bucks.

I'm also thinking that a full blown rebuild kit might not be necessary, and I could get away with just a seal kit. I honestly cant say until I have the engine apart, of course. Can anyone tell me if those rebuild kits come with the 2 piece or 1 piece apex seals?

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Discuss here. Thanks.

why pay $1600 for a motor that needs a rebuild? That seems really dumb. no-offense.

Well its not just the motor my friend. Its the motor, and tranny and turbo, and intercooler, and hood, and other assorted goodies. And i'm adding the cost of the rebuild kit on top of that just in case. I mean, if it runs fine then heck, but i'm not taking my chances on assuming it WILL run.

If you know of a cheaper way to get the engine and required pieces for a cheaper price, by all means, let me know. And no, i've already checked the junkyards around here and the ads.

IF you look very hard, do your own work, and get lucky in finding a good engine, you can do the swap for under 2 grand. *At times when I get them*, I sell the entire swap with engine and drivetrain for $1800-3000, plus any installation.

See, my problem has been finding longblock TII engines. People sell rebuilt shortblocks left and right, but i need all the other pieces to have it run ya know? (not to mention other related goodies with the clip I could use, like front calipers and other non-engine related bits). But maybe (hopefully) if in ~6 months time you'll have a complete swap or two ready to sell, then I'll definetly go your route.

I'm just trying not to kid myself here. I'm thinking that the "under 2 grand" sticker is the extreme low end of the scale, and then it goes up from there up to ridiculous prices. I figure a 5 grand ballpark, give or take a bit, is a good "goal" to work towards. If I luck out and do get your kit, Kevin, then i'll have 3 extra grand to spend on other stuff (w00t!) but if not, I can still get it done in one fell swoop.

When I talked about under 2 grand, I was referring to finding a wrecked or abused t2 car complete. Buy it local or semi-local, part it yourself, clean everything up, replace what needs to be replaced, and use the parts for the swap. Either use the engine as is or rebuild, depending on compression and condition.

WHere do you think those "kits" of mine come from, anyway?

find a car with a blown motor here for 1000 bux, and rebuild that.........I think it is easier.........it seems like alot of extra work and money for something you can find here....I mean it might be hard but i'm sure you can find something.

Well since my GXL is out of service right now, it makes going more than 10 miles out of my way to a junkyard or whatever pretty damn hard. If i can find a wrecked TII, great!, if it's 300 miles away, them i'm **** outta luck. I *have* found some TII's in boneyards, but lo and behold, their engines seem to have magically disappeared. Maybe its those egnine-gnomes..
