need help troubleshooting...

1989 NA S5

Bought this car with a blown water seal and have been unable to afford another engine (intermediate housing was cracked). So I put an S4 block in and attached all the S5 hardware.

Fires up but does not run. Will rev to about 3K if I play with the gas, but will die before long.

No EGR, S5 intake, no air pump, no exhaust attahced at the moment, OMP removed and blocked off (premix), 6 port sleeves/actuators and other big valve thingy on intake removed, no vac lines (just brakes, FPR, and boost sensor) all blocked/plugged...

What do I check first?

AFM is hooked up propperly, how do I check it beyond that?

The TPS is missing the cams and I haven't been able to replace them yet...but why would it matter? I can't set them if the car doesn't run and if I could it would only be necesarry if I get above idle.

sounds like you are confusing the hell out of the ECU with the tps showing WOT, not much air to the AFM, no signal from the OMP, and no signal from the boost sensor.

But I could be wrong.

but how could the TPS be reading WOT? At idle the cams don't touch the TPS... Not much air to the AFM? What do you mean? I'll try the OMP, but the boost sensor is hooked up.

I believe you'll find the cams do contact the TPS at idle. They need to be adjusted, narrow range to @ 1.0 volt at idle. Wide range is also .25/1.25 volts.

If the cam is not touching the TPS (this is the duel one right) then the cams are all the way out right? that is the position they are in at WOT. As for the AFM I think I just confused my self. Is the vac line on the boost sensor hoocked up.
