NEED HELP! Suspension/Steering reassembly

Guys,

Long story short. I have the steering rack out of my '87 TII. I removed the little pins that hold the tie rods on but I can't get the one on the passenger side loose...any ideas? Also...I noticed that the bracket for the steering rack (to chassis) is not symmetrical. Does the long side of it go toward the front or toward the rear of the car? I'm rebuilding the front suspension and the damn tie rod is keeping me from reassembling it! Please help if you can.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I have never had to take a tie rod off of the steering rack...if I change one out, I change the whole rack out. I dont have any experience with what you're doing, and honestly I dont want to have to learn

As for the bracket, the long side goes to the front.

Well...thanks for the help Kevin. At least I can put it back on with the bracket in the right position no . I'll get that thing off soon. I'm putting all new PU bushings in the front suspension and changing all the "joints"....new OEM parts. Where do you get a rack if you need one?

Partscars of course.

Speaking of replacing all front joints, I just did this on my s-10 lowrider. Ever have a lower balljoint **break** at 70mph in a lowrider? **** locked up my driver front tire and took it from having new tread to showing wire in one spot. I also left a 1/8 mile skidmark from said lockup. Best damn burnout that truck has ever done

Never had that happen. Let me ask you something else. The ball joints I got from MCOMP were the same (left and right). The ones I took off were not the same. The arm part that bolts to the control arm was curved on the drivers side....the one I put on was straight.

If you need a new power steering rack, I am not sure if the turbo and NA ones are the same, but I have one out of a parted out 88 SE I am soon to be getting rid of

$50 + shipping? Maybe, make offer if you need it. It is nice and tight, no play.

I dont think either shoul dbe curved...it might have gotten bent at some point, from driving up a curb or something. AFAIK, they should be the same and symmetrical on both sides...rule of thumb for any car.

Well.....The my car does not have power steering. Wonder if I could use the power rack in place of my manual and just not hook up the pump etc.... I know it will be a little harder to turn but have a quicker ratio. Suggestions on this?

Kevin,

Remember I told you that my car was hit on that side? I think that the ball joint was bent at that time. The body shop sucks ***! They let me leave with the lower arm coming loose (it was missing a bolt) and then apparently they failed to notice the bent ball joint when they replaced the bolt! They did a good job on the paint but the suspension work they did sucks! I guess the bent joint explains why the car was pulling to the left slightly.

Audiofight,

I'd like to try that power rack. The problem is....it would probably cost more to ship it than the cost of the rack ($50.00).
