By slimming the harness you are taking on a bigger project then you think. It is very involved for someone to tell you how to do it over a forum as there is a lot of wiring in an FC (for a car of the era, anyway). Your best bet is to get a copy of the wiring diagrams from the Haynes/FSM (see FAQ) and get some familiarity with the wiring in the car. Then you can decide what can be removed.
I'm almost willing to bet that when you see what you are up against, you'll rethink saving weight in this particular area.

My electrician friend did it in his 87 sport. I don't remember his mods but he kept up with stock TIIs years ago. I give him **** everytime I see him because he the car and threw away all his notes from when he rewired the car.

I'd love to do that in my "new" RX-7, too. Maybe in '09, cause theres no way I'd do it during race season, which is unfortunately all summer long.. lol
If you do it, take all notes and keep them and post them on the internet for all to see so that it'll make it 100x easier on us..
oh yeah, and do it

The Haynes manual will be a great help if you have the base knowledge to do this. It has fairly complete wiring diagrams and you can use them to eliminate circuits you don't need.
Quite a bit of wiring can be stripped from the car if it's going to be a full track car. However as far as I know, no step-by-step guides exist. You'll have to look at the diagrams for your year of car and go from there.

If you're trying to shoot for better racing times, you could probably just leave out the wiring as far as weight reduction...
The amount of weight a few wires yields for loss time can be gained up in skill of driver. Assuming you've done the proper weight reduction (seats, carpet, emissions, etc.) to start with the wiring. I'd say you're pretty much done at this point

This is about as bare bones as it can get.... Without running a carb that is.
Basically no heat, No A/C, Just guages, engine harness, and coils...
I have restrung and eliminated stuff on a 2nd gen project before. It took me about 8 hours straight to do it.. Not worth it... You can unplug and cap off the rest of the stuff... But messing with an already "crappy" harness is asking for trouble..

The mystery of the prize.
It's probably less work and you'll have a better end result to simply remove all the stock wiring and install a "universal harness" from painless performance. Find their web site here: http://painlessperformance.com
I've stripped the harness of my S4, it was alot of work, though the end result is OK it's kindof annoying to still have a FC fuse block seperate from my haltech fuse block... I could integrate it all into one but meh... the R1 gets all the attention now.
