Maybe the steerign wheel is locked? Try jerking the wheel left to right as you turn the ignition.

It does sound like it's locked.

The wheel will only turn through a very short range. An inch, maybe two. Find the middle of this free play, and hold the wheel there. Now turn the key.

Not extremely hard. At least I dont think it is for our cars. But that really does sound like what your problem is. (Steering wheels lock) If I were you I'd just sit there and jerk the **** out of the steering wheel and try to normally engage the key. dont try to force the key. If all else fails then yea. Change the ignition lock cylinder.

If your steering wheel is still locked then it wouldnt matter if you did hot wire it. Hmmmm. How about just stabbing the damn thing with a screwdriver?

The problem is if you get it hot wired then you will still have the steering locked problem.

Did you try yo lube the ignition switch with some WD40. My ignition locked one time too and I was surprised that all it took was some WD40 to free it up.
