need help quick quick quick!!

i turn my key in the ignition and it won't move, i get it past the locking position and after its on "acc" it won't turn anymore...and it just won't move, i really need to go somewhere...i tried forcing it and i only bent my spare key...what should i do?!?!?!

sunshine 03-14-03 09:10 AM

Maybe the steerign wheel is locked? Try jerking the wheel left to right as you turn the ignition.

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 09:19 AM

i tried it and it still won't do anything, any other ideas???

Amur_ 03-14-03 09:30 AM

It does sound like it's locked.

The wheel will only turn through a very short range. An inch, maybe two. Find the middle of this free play, and hold the wheel there. Now turn the key.

nope i can't even get it past "lock" now and i think i broke it, how hard is it to replace that ignition cylinder thing

ForsakenRX7 03-14-03 09:42 AM

Not extremely hard. At least I dont think it is for our cars. But that really does sound like what your problem is. (Steering wheels lock) If I were you I'd just sit there and jerk the fuck out of the steering wheel and try to normally engage the key. dont try to force the key. If all else fails then yea. Change the ignition lock cylinder.

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 09:45 AM

well thats not rreally the thing...i already did that and i broke it, like the carbon or whatever that crap in the ignition cylinder is made of it cracked and part of it fell out so i can't even get it to "acc" now so im screwed, but i still need to get somewhere, anyone know how to hotwire our cars? i can't push start it, my driveway is on a backwards hill, thanks....gerry

If your steering wheel is still locked then it wouldnt matter if you did hot wire it. Hmmmm. How about just stabbing the damn thing with a screwdriver? :D

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 09:50 AM

thats how i broke it, this has happened before and it got stuck...so i used a screwdriver and it worked, this time it just broke, but if anyone knows how to hotwire our cars i would want to know...i have been looking online and the results so far have been pretty obismal

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 10:02 AM

ok so, in that link, is that the way to get it out and if i did get it ut bould i start it without that, cuz i still need to get a new one...and i doubt that wil happen today...

dcee 03-14-03 10:14 AM

The problem is if you get it hot wired then you will still have the steering locked problem.

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 10:17 AM

oh, yea i see, ok then the next step is, i get my license back in 4 days i need to get this fixed...this car has broken on me about 12 times so far and i am soooo sick of it, i need to get an ignition cylinder like now...so i can have it for next tuesday...any suggestions?

dcee 03-14-03 10:21 AM

pull one from a local salvage yard.

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 10:24 AM

no salvage yard around here has one, i called like 12 and if they did i doubt it would come with a key...i called a dealer and they said they could get one for me, but i think it will be like a HELL of a lot of money, im cringing thinking about it

dcee 03-14-03 10:25 AM

Did you try yo lube the ignition switch with some WD40. My ignition locked one time too and I was surprised that all it took was some WD40 to free it up.

xxxbadassfoxxxx 03-14-03 10:26 AM

hmmm i will try it right now
but its still like cracked in half....
