Need help for header and 5/6th port activation

So here's the deal, I've got my full true dual exhaust system just about ready to go, except for the fact that my header does NOT have a 5th6th port activation tube or whatever.

I want to keep my 5th and 6th ports working of course, so how can I go about doing that? Just cut a hole, insert a thin pipe, and weld it on? zip tie open 5th/6th ports? rpm activation?

Just looking for some people with EXPERIENCE. Not to sound like a dick, but opinions get biased.

Thanks

By the way, I searched and found that my best bet would be to have the exhaust pressure open them up, so how should I do that with an exhaust without one? Just weld a nipple or small tube in?

Thanks

Do *not* wire the ports open...too much bottom-end is lost to make it worth it, plus that just sounds like a bad idea, logically.

I think your initial idea of just drilling a hole makes the most sense. I think RPM activation is too complicated when you have a solution that's much easier to implement.

Not to sound like a dick back at you, but even those with experience have different opinions...so bias will almost always come into play. :-)

If you're careful you can just tap the header with an 1/8th npt tap and run a hose barb.

What year is your car? 86-88 (exhaust back pressure activation for factory 6PI system), or 89-91 (air pump activation via solenoid and ECU). Your profile shows 84 RX-7 so that doesn't help.

Your system may not provide enough backpressure to activate the system at any RPM at all. Welding a nipple wouldn't help, and without a valve of some sort, you wouldn't be able to control activation RPM. Wiring them open will cost you low RPM power and torque.

If 86-88, you either go modified Air pump activation with a valve and dump, or electronic (RPM sensor, electric air pump and solenoid).

If 89-91, you're laughing, although you have to keep the air pump. You can also use the electronic activation.

See archive.

I have an 88.

"86-88, you either go modified Air pump activation with a valve and dump, or electronic (RPM sensor, electric air pump and solenoid)"

Thanks, it all seems a bit confusing to me as to how to hook it up - but I'll read up as much as I can. Thanks!
