need opinion on rebuild
s5 na
ok so i rebuilt the engine 1500miles ago. all i replaced was apex seals, apex springs, oil control o-rings, and all four bearings. reused all other springs and seals. the engine had 135k on it when i tore it apart. wear on housings wasnt bad. engine was completely stock. anyways cold start is very acceptable but hot start sucks *****. 20 seconds to 35 seconds. just an estimate. it was improving greatly right up till 1200k miles than its just kinda flat lined out. do you guys think that by 2k it will be ok? or did i make a bad decision to reuse those housings? ill try and get some compression numbers.

By 1500 miles, it pretty much is what it is. It might gain 5 more psi by 3 or 4k miles.
Run a bit of premix in the tank on top of the stock OMP, and see if that doesnt help. Also be sure your battery and starter are turning the engine fast enough, that your injectors are in good condition with a good spray pattern and no leaking, and that your sparkplugs are clean and recent.
s5 models should not really have a problem with flooding unless compression is really, really weak. 90 and below kinda weak. s4 models tend to flood much easier, even a 100psi motor can flood.

With this mileage, your flat seals have worn considerably into the grooves in your old housings. If you put those (now unflat) seals against new (flat) housings you will once again suffer poor sealing and weak compression. But, after a while of running it that way (1-2k miles) they will wear flat again and seal up very well.
Whereas if you get flat seals and flat housings, you will have instantaneous compression, almost perfect right off the bat. You can set the idle on such motors after half an hour and then you're done.
