Its my understanding that there are a lot of shops in California.
Part of the reason I want to move there.
Where I live, kentucky, there is no rotary love at all.
I was in your same situation and found a rebuilt n/a with 30k miles for 800 dollars.
I'm trying to just restore my s5 gxl (engine is ported though, lulz.)
I'd say it depends on what you want this car to be built for.
If cost is a factor I'd consider finding a n/a engine that has already been ported/rebuilt.
I'm not much help, but word of advice; if you are new to rx7s and rotaries... get out while you still can. lulz.

i was recently in the same exact situation you were in. i did a TII swap and the engine is burning a very small amount coolant. either its the o ring in the intake manifold or the coolant seals are on there way out, so i may have to start saving up for a rebuild. TII swaps are great if ya get a good engine... with the $1500 left over u could get a new exhaust system + other goodies.

oh wait i just re-read the thread.... i thought u were doin the swap yourself. i guess u may not have that extra cash left over.... ... theres a shop in chatsworth... i forgot the name, but if ya search u can find it. theres also lucky seven racing in duarte... which is right off the 210 at the 605... theres also mazdatrix which is in signal hill(LBC)

i remember reading that if u port your NA right, upgrade the fuel system and the ECU, u can compete with a stock TII. thats after rebuilding your NA and since your not doing the work yourself, u may run out of cash quick... again u can do a TII swap and luck out or have a blown engine...

maybe save up some more
