Unhappy Need help desperately...

ok, i just finished putting back parts of my car today after I replaced all vacuum hoses and fuel lines. The only components I touched were, the upper intake manifold, fuel rails & injectors, plenum or dynamic chamber, pulled out all the pulleys and thats it.

the problem is this, when I try to start the car, the engine will rotate but won't start. A white smoke comes out of the exhaust and you can smell the fuel all over the place. I though it was flooding but I tried the flooding procedure plenty of times but still didn't help.

PLEASE HELP !!!

If you did not touch the cas or the plug wires or the trail and lead coils, then I'd say what you have is, is a massive air leak. Is it a turbo? or a n/a? On the turbo I have left the hose to the brake booster off. Its about a half inch in dia hose on a 87 turbo that connects to a metal line that runs to the brake booster. Its more than less on center line of the engine, on the fire wall. On the n/a on occasion I'll leave off the one inch line that goes from something of a swivel joint on the bottom of the inlet duct to a hard metal line that runs across the back of the engine. Just a small leak on the intake gasket won't cause no start. Duh! Do you have spark. Of course you do. If you did'nt you would have said so. Is the plug to the mass air flow meter hooked up?

did not touch the CAS nor the parts for igniton(plugs, wires and coils). i'm not sure if there is a spark due to the fuel not being burnt because of the white smoke coming out from the exhaust and the smell of fuel.

Remove the plugs. Put the wires close to bare metal like the studs at the top of the strut tower. Spin the engine over and look for sparks and or crackling sound. Also if you spin it over for say 30 seconds, then you should see a fuel mist coming out of the plugs. If you have spark and fuel mist disconnect the fuel pump plug(on the side of the left rear strut tower under the carpeting). Put the plugs in wires on and spray starter fluid in the intake. Try to start the car. If it momentarily starts......flooded? Still wonder whether you have a turbo or n/a. Still think its maybe a huge vac leak. To others, I know that you can pull the fuse to disable the fuel pump. I'm set in my ways.

GOOD news and BAD news

but first of, my car is an N/A. The good news is, I already got the car started last night. I put back my BAC because I removed it initialy, thinking that I didn't need it anymore since I have no AC anyway. I was wrong, I think the BAC supplies extra air in many instances like, A/C, P/S, Neutral, Clutch, CAS, etc. Anyway, so I put it back and the metal hose that connects to it; cranked the engine and it started. The idle is very smooth but I know it needs some adjustment because it's below 650 right now. And I also needed to adjust CAS timing.

And the bad news, I still get white smoke and smell of fuel coming out from the exhaust. The white smoke is really bad specially when you rev it, you'll see tons of it and it looks like a smoke coming from a burning house because of its volume. I don't know why I am getting this because I know my spark plugs are ok since they were working before. Well anyway, I stopped working on my car last night because I didn't want fire trucks coming to our house

Any idea guys?

You had no smoke before you started this project, did you? In the best of all worlds then it must be the oil? that you poured in the intake to get it started? Maybe all that fuel you mentioned coming out the exaust in the first post , needs to burn off? Must be that. Run the car for thirty minutes at idle. If it does not go away .....duh. The exaust needs to heat up from front to rear to burn that stuff out. Check you radiator and make sure you have water and its not disappearing.

Hi Henry!I think it's you at least since I think you changed your screen name forh Bhenoc. I was gonna call the fire dept one night cause I thought somebody's car wasa on fire but it went away so I didn't call the fire dept. Good thing I didn't. Ha ha Just kidding. So your baby is having problems huh? I was thinking the same thing Hailers said did you go and run the car on 101 or something to get rid of the ATF fluid. That will cause all kinds of smoke. Just a thought. If it isn't that then got me on this one. By the way on a differnt note were you intrested on going to Batman's house on the 9th for a BBQ in Los Altos???? Let us know in the West Forum if you do. Hit me up some time since we both live in the east side. Take care bro

I might go to BBQ thingy with my friend. Remember Chris? with the MR2. I'll post something on that board later.

So back to my problem, no I never had smoke on my car before except when burning rubber Maybe your right HAILERS. Maybe I'll try to run it at idle again today and see if I can get all those unburnt gases out. Actually, let me do it now. I'll be back to post my update....

Oh my god I was laughing so hard about why you have to change the license plate. Yeah I can see your point though about why to change it. So many Vietnamese live in the east side so that makes sense if they mistake you for that. What was it that Neofreak said all Asians look alike. lol. So yeah I remember your friend, sure bring him too but I need to know for sure ASAP so me and Batman have a head count. Talk to ya laters!
