Exclamation Need help!

Last night I change my oil (10w30) and added some injector cleaner to the tank. Now the engine wont take any load without stalling, I had to get it to 3000 just to shift into 2nd, if I accelarate slowly it seams fine but if I ''floor it'' the engine hesitates badly for a sec and stalls. After 2 minutes of driving in my yard the buzzer came on so I tried to stop the car but it just wouldn't let me, even with the key removed so I had to stall it. My starter has some damaged but it never did that, what could have gone wrong with a simple oil change?

All I can say is retrace your steps man, what did you do during the oil change? Was it just the oil pan and filter? Do you have the bottle the injector cleaner came in? I would check how old it is, I had a bottle of cleaner in one of my cars that sat for a while and well it didn't look right anymore so I didn't use it not sure if it was actually bad. Personally I think it sounds like your injectors are clogged, maybe when changing the oil something foreign dropped in.

I simply changed the oil but I forgot to buy a new filter but it was changed last time. I just tried flushing the gas tank even though the bottle was brand new. Didn't help much.

Now the car wont start and the alarm sounds as soon as I turn the key farther than ''lock''. Is it normal for it to do that? Even if the engine insn't started? And does the alarm/buzzer rings if the hatch isn't close properly?

My buzzer goes off on every start but I have an 87 13b non turbo auto (sorry not entireally up on the lingo yet lol) the buzzer shuts off after a few seconds not sure on the rear hatch I thought it was just a light... but no I do oil changes on all my cars at the leaste once a month and never had any problems nevermind something as extensive as this. On the filter, did you make sure it was 100% clean when put back on? It didn't like possibly roll and collect some dirt? When you jacked the car (if at all, I'm skinny enough I don't have too I use a curb) you didn't accidentally jog something? Drop the car too hard?

Kick the car? Sadly my Monte wouldn't start got angry and kicked it and it worked great lol (I don't actually suggest this lol thin metal + foot no good lol)

My apologies for so many questions in my answer, I don't know what to give for advise but no one has posted yet so I am giving insight onto the things I would check.

If the car ran after you turned off and removed the ignition key it sounds like a failed ignition switch or a short of some sort. Your problem may not be related to the oil change or injector cleaner. Read the error codes stored in the ECU and that may lead you to the answer. You can read the codes without any special tools. Search the forum for information on how to read the codes. For a listing of the error codes, download a copy of the factory service manual from one of the links in the 2nd gen FAQ.

That nice to know but I cant read the codes since my switch apears to now have failed completly... I doubt thats the only problem but I'll need to change anyway. How much does a starter switch costs? Between buying the car and parts I'm just about broke.

You'll have to check with a local dealer for the price of an ignition switch. If you consider yourself capable of replacing the switch, the FSM should walk you through the process.

Yeah, the reality is that cars can be expensive to own and operate.

You're kidding right? lol. Anyway I ended up buying a ignition switch from ebay, not the cylinder lock but the yellowish switch itself. But does anyone knows how to hotwire an FC? Just so I can get back to working on it while waiting for shipping.

sounds more like a dead battery than a bad switch...

Is the battery any good? Why do you think it is???

I know the battery's fine, I didn't buy the FC with one (go figure) so I switch the one I got back and forth with my truck. And I sure the starter has failed since I opened it and found the problem. The ''pin'' in the cylinder lock was turning loose due to some broken plastic, I tried to fix it with epoxy without much sucess and since I found a replacement for 24$ I dont think it's worth my trouble. I'd just like to continue my repairs while I'm force to wait.
