well after changing the pump are u getting fuel? check for fuel BEFORE the fuel filter and after (eliminates the possiblilty of a clogged filter)
also check all your fuses u may have popped a fuel pump fuse or relay

yes u can my buddy has his setup to tuen on with the key and he has a relay in the middle as a breaker.
I would run it directly to the battery or power source and see if it kicks on and the car will start

Something easier might be to jump the fuel pump test connector. It's the yellow 2 pin connector at the passenger shock tower (sometimes it's under the airbox). Jumping those wires together will run the pump any time the car is powered on.
The original poster needs to look at things logically. Since the pump doesn't work:
1. Check for 12V at the pump on the appropriate wires. Is it there?
2. Test fuel pump relay. Does it work?
3. Check ALL fuses.
4. Does the pump run with the test connector jumped?
5. Does the pump run when you apply 12V directly?
