Need exhaust help

It's time for me to completely upgrade my exhaust. I have an '88 GXL N/A. I'd really like to do the whole thing at the same time, from the headers to the mufflers, considering the aftermarket system that is on their right now is completely rusted and rattles like a **** (it came with the car). This is the setup I want to run, but I'm not sure if it would all fit together nicely. Basically, I'd like to do Racing Beat Road Race (or streetable) headers, connected to the Racing Beat Presilencer, which then connects to the Apexi Single N1 piping (where the old Y-pipe was) which then connects to the Apexi muffler. My question is, where does a downpipe come into play here? Does it bolt up after the headers and before the presilencer/cat? On the rx7store.net, They have a Racing Beat downpipe and presilencer combo, but does the downpipe only work on the factory headers, or would it bolt up to the Racing Beat headers? If so, I'd technically have to buy the headers, downpipe, presilencer (aka cat), and finally the cat-back exhaust system? Or am I not needing a downpipe?

And is there much difference between the RB road-race header and the streetable header? Are they all the same sizes? Which am I better off sticking to? Main reason I chose the road race is because it is cheaper...

i think you should take some time and use the search function. the downpipe is used if you want to keep the stock exhaust mainfold. read sig for my setup.

^ I definitely did, I read about 8 threads on it, but most skimmed over the DP and didn't cover it much.

the downpipe pre silencer hooks up to the stock manifold. you will just need the pre silencer to hook up to the street header. if you dont really have a budget on the headers i say go with the SDJ motorsports headers, they run 550$ street directly from SDJ, but you can talk to Banzaitoyota from this forum and he can sell you one as well. the apex'i n1 is a great choice, it will be loud, but will give a nice power gain, and the SDJ headers are worth a considerable gain over the RB headers, the price is just higher.

edit: yet another WORTHLESS post about searching, if you dont want to help dont bother posting "you should have searched" it just wastes a post on a thread you shouldnt be responding to, just skip over it, some of us dont mind answering questions, whether or not its been posted 10 or 100 times before.

Thanks.. Agent. I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets irked over that.

Unfortunately I do have a budget, I have other things to buy for this car
So the RB header + presilencer + Apexi N1 CB is an ok combo? Would you recommend road race or streetable header? This is my daily driver, used everyday for 15 miles or less, so I'm not going too crazy with it, just minor upgrades. But I am not worried and don't mind the extra noise at all, especially if it helps me save a little cash.

CW, I *think* Pacesetter makes headers for our cars also.

pacesetter does make headers for our car. road race header if you didnt notice has two outlets for the purpose of running true duals. look at mazdatrixs package. go with the streetable one then to presilencer then to either a y pipe to dual mufflers or to single muffler.

yea the pace setter isnt very good, very poor design. the RB is the best for the price. the SDJ is the best for power, but pricey. its basically the same setup im gonna have 7th heaven, i have a mind trian header and have an Apex N1 coming soon and an RB pre silencer

Stupid question... does the 02 sensor on the stock exhaust manifold get relocated onto aftermarket headers, or does it not get used at all?

yes with racing beat it does... they now offer mufflers with holes predrilled for the o2 sensor... otherwise if you have one of the old ones you have to fabricate it yourself
