Need Electriacal Help Please

Hello,

I am finishing up a TII swap and have run into a major electrical problem.

I also completed a battery relocation while I was at it. I have voltage at the battery, the remote terminals, both sides of the main fuse, and also have power at every fuse.

My son, who is gone now in the Marines, unhooked the throttle cable at which time he apparently unhooked some of the wiring under the dash to complete this task. The conector at the little sliver box underneath the dash was unplugged. I plugged this back in. I found 2 other connectors (see attached pics) and have not been able to determine where they go.

When I turn the ignition key to the on position my stereo amps have power, the clock turns on and runs, but I have no other dash lights, with the exception of the add coolant and oil level lights. Both are empty at this time. Also the conecter for the oil level and coolant level are both on after I plugged back in and they stay on (buzzing) regardless what position the key is in.

I attempted to turn the engine over but there is absoluttely nothing.

The connector in pic 1 and 2 is on the left side near the fuse box itsled and the connector in pic 2 is near (above) the gas pedal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Michael

the wide one is for your gauge cluster.. or looks like it at least.
pull it out and straight through on the right side you'll see the male connector it needs to go in.

As for the other one,.. looks like it might be the plug into the fuel pump relay located near/above the gas pedal.
hope that gives some ideas/helps.

Not it

The wires are way to short to go to th eguage cluster.

The second wire over by the gas pedal just loops up by the fuel pump relay.

I still don't have power to the starter. Everything is gounded well.

Thanx

Michael

The multi-socket plug might very well be for the instrument cluster. On the back of the cluster you have two round plugs in the harness. The other end of the harness is only a foot or so away and looks similar to the one in the picture.

Give us the wire colors on the other plugs, not the multi-socket one. Then we can tell you what they are for. One is probably for the inhibit sw that should be on the clutch pedal.

The clutch interlock switch should have a black/green wire and a black/red wire.

The connector b/t the two meter round plugs and the front harness should be a 21pin connector. Ten holes on top and eleven on the bottom. The very middle wire in the bottom row should be a red/white wire.

I got this info from the free online factory service manual. Wiring section. Its the series four 88 model. Sorry, didn't pay attention to your year car.

Colors

One wire is black with a yellow stripe running lengthwise and the other is yellow with what appears to be orange (light brown maybe) stripes that round the wire about every 1.5 inches.

What would make the oil level and add coolant buzzers stay on even with the key off?

Thanx

Michael

is your ECU in there and all hooked up? it is a black box with about 2 or 3 connectors on it located in the left driver's kick panel just rear of the fuse box.

The oil and buzzer going off when the key is OFF........There's some miswiring on that car. It's someknd of swap so somewhere along the line some wires are not where they should be. I'll look for the wires you described bit before I do that......what year car????????????? I missed that somewhere.

Nornally a black/yellow wire is a 12v power wire.

Found it. That blacy/yellow and Yellow wires in that two wire plug are for the cruise control. Cars with cruise control, have two plugs on the brake pedal switch. One for the stop lights and the other for the cruise control. If your brake pedal does not have the arrangement for two electrical plugs, then that plug is not doing you any good.

I'll take a look at the larger plug in a moment. How many wires on it???/ I trust this car is a 87. What harness is in it? Original????????????????? Or turbo harness. Or??????????

And that is the CPU near your left foot, not the ECU.

Count the number or SOCKETS on the large plug. Not the number of wires, but the number of sockets on the plug. Count even the empty ones. AND, one either end of that plug, tell me the color of the wire in the top row and the color of the wire in the bottom row. I don't care which end of the plug, but they have to be on the very end. One above the other.

Plug

The big plug is 13 holes. I think it is also for the cruise control.

Top left is Green
Top right in green with white stripe running lengthwise

Bottom left is black
Bottom right is white with orange rings

I have 11.9 volts at the battery and both sides of the engine fuse box. Where should I check for voltage next?

My warning guage cluster only lights up when I connect the two connectors in the attached pic, otherwise, nothing. The funny thing is that the one plug (2 connectors) is the same color as the previus plug for the cruise control and the other plug which connects to it (2 connectors ) is green with white strip and blue with red stripe.

Please help.

Thanx
