Neat-o backfiring flaming problem

Okay.. so, 88NA, stock plus cone filter and header back to fart cans.
It floods frequently but there's no carpet in the back so I just do the unplug the fuel pump thing to make it go.
A week or two ago I got it pretty hot, but I didn't overheat it
Now, every now and then when I start it acts like it floods, so I unflood it, then when I crank it, there's like one kick and it acts like it's flooded again. I can do this till I kill the battery. Sometimes if i just crank it and pump the gas carefully for about a minute straight it will start. Last night was one of those kill the battery nights. So, this morning I was cranking it and it blew a massive flame WHILE it was cranking and it singed my garage door

What's the deal?

All my flooding problems on my N/A have been due to dirty plugs or injectors

checking the plugs right now..
The injectors shouldn't be dirty and I think the plugs as well are fairly new.
But to blow flames it seems like it should be getting EXTRA gas, right?
Keep throwing ideas out LoL i'll be back in a min.

plugs are fantastic, injectors should be fine.. replaced the plug wires because my 10mm NGK's made the plugs fire 1000 times better.. whatever was on it wasn't doing so hot.. think this'll help? stay tuned for when I try to start it up in about an hour!

Check the spark on that thing. For it to shoot a flame WHILE cranking might be an indication of an intermintent spark problem. In other words, while your cranking it its dumping fuel but no spark. This could appear as a flooding problem. But then it suddenly gets a spark and backfires out the pipes. Good luck!

That would be my guess, are the wires in good condition?
