navigation installation help?

ok so im installing a eclipse avn 5435 double din navigation unit... everything is fine and covered except the speed pulse wire... i was told by a shop to install that wire to the green/red wire from the cruise control... i talked to eclipse and dale (who actually owns a 1st gen) said rx7's dont have this wire...

ok, so now i've checked online and it seems that the wire on an s4 is indeed a speed pulse wire, but not the correct kind?

the s5 shows a VSS wire on the right side of the dash, green/red on a sixteen pug harness..., but it says the s4 doesnt have it... now can anyone come up with a way to wire this up on the s4? or atleast have a diagram or something that shows where that VSS wire on the s5 leads to?

i have a S4 Chassis and chassis electricals, with a S5 T2 motor and engine electricals...

I suggest you PM Icemark, or catch him at 7Stock. If anyone can navigate you through this problem, he can.

On a S4 the speed sense wire is found at the Cruise Control computer and the power steering computer, as well as coming out of the back of the gauge cluster. The power steering computer is probably the easiest place to reach if you have to run a wire from the center dash where the radio is mounted.

1054 pulses per mile as I recall off the top of my head and away from any manuals. And it is the same pulse set for S4 as S5.

And your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen technical section.

I'd guess that you were on the wrong wire.

Well, you are looking for a Grn/Red wire (Green wire, red stripe probably brown or silver dots).

At the cruise control computer as I recall it is dead center in the middle of the plug, just below the locking tab (bottom row of pins)

At the power steering computer it is in 2nd pin over from the locking tab on the top (lock tab side) of the plug.

If you hook your digital multi meter up, to test it, set the meter to AC voltage with the positive lead of your digital multi meter to a good 12 volts source and the negative lead of your multi-meter to the wire. You should see about 6-12 Volts AC when the car is driving forward.

The speedo is mechanical, so a bad wire wouldn't affect you speed reading. But, it would obviously affect you cruise control and perhaps your power steering.

My suggestion, call Eclipse technical service armed with the information Icemark just gave and see what they say.

I still say Eclipse technical service armed with knowing

"1054 pulses per mile as I recall off the top of my head and away from any manuals"

is your best bet.
