Hey, you know who to contact for parts don't ya? lol....
You want the original NA style or T2? I can hook you up w/ an AL T2 hood cheap. The FG hoods? I didn't think the FCs had these? I thought the only options were steel and aluminum...could be wrong though! Just let me know if you need anything.

Well the AL hoods were an option..you just have to find one. My friend has an '86 base w/ an AL hood, I have an 88 base(se) and I have a steel hood. Its just whatever the original owner opted for...

Well,
The CF hoods are coming, about 5.5 more weeks. You didn't see that post? Well www.carbonfiberhoods.com is going to make them now. I believe they are going to be $400 each, I'll have them on my site for sale, and I'm going to try to get them cheaper for us! But like I said, you have to wait a few weeks to get one....so how did you hurt your hood?

I removed all the hood hardware as I am installing pins this week and I took it of to work on getting my AC compsr out. I went to set it down on a old pile of carpet and slip... it bent the front left tip to a 90degree angle. I could fix it but hey. If i can get CF screw it. Keep me posted on the CF info ... I wanna get one.

It'll be on the HOT DEALS ELSEWHERE ON THE NET section of rssinc.rx7life.com when they are available. And like I said, I'm gonna see if they'll let me be a dealership..I'll buy like 5 of em at a cheaper price to sell to my fellow forum buddy's.....

The distribution of Al hoods was by model and serial number(its complicated),but your best bet is to look for an 86/87 GXL with AUTOMATIC transmission,VIN129445-140157,base model A/T,VIN148383 or higher. My recollection is they weigh 23 lbs(but I could be wrong).

They were totally screwed up over at Mazda when they put these hoods on our cars. It was not an option unless you looked through the cars at the dealer when buying it new, and happened to get one with an AL hood. From what I have seen and heard through other discussions on some of the email lists, there is no real pattern, but if there is I would love to know the specifics. Seems like Mazda just ran out of one of the two materials at different times! One thing is for sure (from everything I have ever heard) ALL of the verts had AL hoods due to them weighing more to start with. Does anyone have any data otherwise?

Aluminum Hoods

All the verts had aluminum hoods. That is correct. Be careful when purchasing. The aluminum hoods have the hood latch pop riveted in, the regular hoods have the latch bolted I believe. To be safe, go with a known vert hood.
Also, some say the Turbo II hoods are all aluminum. Be careful here as well as some were steel, probably the early ones and some from Japan. If it is no sweat to lift, its aluminum and if it has the pop rivets. Should be about 23 or so pounds like the previous poster stated.
