A stock NA will top out 4th gear, which puts you right around 135-140 depending on tire diameter.

except for the granny gear 1st, the Rx8 and the competition box are basically the same. probably not a coincidence...

the downside is, all the oem boxes we can readily get these days basically suck. The "best option" would actually be a kennedy T5 adapter then a proper motorsport gearset for the T5 (since they are cheap). Other options would be OS giken if they are still making things, or maybe Pfitzner.

the miata box is about the best due to a longer first but is still nothing like the comp box. the shift into second isnt bad. The rx8 essentially has a typical, streetability useless for racing first gear.

the final drive is more or less relative to the speed of the track your driving on, with consideration given to the torque produced by the engine. choosing a gearset that gives the best rpm drop between shifts keeps you in the power band. adjusting the final drive essentially adjusts overall acceleration and speed in gears.

the factory Rx-8 final drive was bumped up after 09 to about a 4.77 as i recall, which is not the same thing as a kia sporage gearing swap. I am unaware in the ring and pinion works in the 8.

the kia sportage front diff houses a 4.77 7 inch gear which will fit the short pinion 7 inch housings. aka the gslse, s2000 and miata.. the 4.77 in the rx8 makes that car move check this video I found on youtube.

Also lets not forget the cost of getting the rx8 box in the FC with the drive shaft. It would be cool to have a 6 speed

Excellent discussion we have here guys.

i know the kia gears fit the short 7", two of my cars have that little gem of a mod. aside from highway crusing sucking ***, i love it

i was wondering about the Rx-8 differential itself and if it had interchange with anything.

Iam not to sure about the RX8 diff capability with others.

If you don't mind me asking how is day to day with the 4.7 gear modification?

Do you often start in second gear due to first being to short?

Is it more of a work out rowing though the gears constantly?

My corolla has a 6 speed with a 4.53... and it's damn near amazing, totally transformed the car

not sure if anyone cares lol here are it's ratios:

3.166 2.050 1.481 1.166 0.916 0.725

Mazda traditionally has had two RWD differentials.

the M type, which is the 7" ring gear found in the R100/Rx2/3/4/5/7, all the RWD non turbo 4 cylinder cars, like the 94-05 miatas, S2000, and the KIA's.

the P type is the 8" ring gear, which is found in V6/turbo cars like the Rx8/FD/T2/mpv/929

Thats good to know personally I have never done a gear change in a car. I have heard the difference is night and day.

that was a whole transmission change (it's a 6 speed in an '89 corolla ) the final drive went from 4.3 to 4.5 and it added an LSD....

you'll have to jump at least to a 4.5 or 4.7 to make a big difference. I put 4.3s in my turbo FC and it made a difference, but I wouldn't say it was night and day or even a big difference... I would have gone for 4.77s but I didn't want to pay that much... 4.3s for TIIs are already expensive as it is.
