Oil buildup..

In the deflooding procedure did you add oil through the plugs? How much?

Ive deflooded my car more than a few times trying to get it to start its first time and the first few times I did it I added more oil than was needed. To the extent that it wouldn't start at all. Not until I pulled off the exhaust manifold and cranked it over did it really all come out.

Your oil injectors wouldn't be injecting enough oil to cause severe oil buildup on the plugs and the oil system probably isn't building enough pressure to force oil past a bad oil seal (except you said the short block stayed intact and ran fine before so I doubt its a bad oil seal). I would say you probably have allot of oil left in your housings that isn't coming out. Only way I was able to do this was pull of the exhaust manifold (between block and turbo) and crank the engine over. Then clean the spark plugs real good with break cleaner and pop em back in. Starting fluid or a rolling start and it might just fire up.

I'm not saying pull off your exhaust manifold, Just saying that there might be too much oil in the housings to prevent it from sparking real good.

I had this EXACT same start problem with my car at first.

It was MAJOR flooded. It would catch just like yours then die. Had to crank it so much to get it started i burned the starter up. Overall i had to deflood, over and over and over and over and over and you get the idea.

Pull the bottom plugs, crank for a little bit, then put a little oil in there, clean the plugs and put them back in. With the efi fuse pulled crank some more to get the oil worked in. The put the efi fuse back in and unplug the fuel pump. Crank for a few seconds and see what happens. have a buddy spray some starter fluid into the intake while you crank.

you should be able to get it catch more ofthen and easier. Just keep working on it until it catches and runs, then keep it running. after a little bit it will work out the oil and other junk in there and should run fine.

Be sure to change you oil after all this though, i bet there is gas in it.

I am willing to bet that if you had a firend spray that starter fluid into the TB while you cranked it it would start right up. Just don't run it for more then a few seconds.

Buy a turbo engine, and do the conversion right.

I don't see how this post is useful when this has been done on numerous cars.

+1 for serious flooding. Pull starting could work. Otherwise the deflood procedure Texas_Ace suggested also works.

tried de-flooding to no avail, although it did seem better. i talked to an rx7 owner the other day and he suggested try putting some oil in, may have lost compression and having trouble getting it back up, since i did start the conversion right as we went from 60+ degree days down to 40 and colder at night. last year it was a little troublesome during the winter season.

im going to try and muster a crew of people for a push start.
