N/A Backfire without flames?

I recently gutted all 3 of my cats and am running them to a single canister muffler. I can definitely feel the difference throughout the power band. When I hit the higher RPM's and let off, I hear a pop. Ive had my friend's look for a flame, but they never see it. I have driven at night and looked for a flame in my rear view without seeing any. I took the split air pipe off. I dont want to take the ACV, or any of the other emissions.

Do you want a flame? I have all emissions removed, removed cats with a straight pipe and I don't flame either. But I don't want a big backfire flame that attracts attention.

^ A lot of people think shooting flames is cool as ****.

When I had the stock exhaust manifold with my straight through 2.5" header-back I would consistently make huge pops after redlining but never flames. Now it shoots flames but not consistently, only when the car is being run hard. Get an aftermarket header if you want flames.

Flames attract attention for unwanted sources(see cops).

True but RX-7s in general attract cops. Plus if a cop sees you redline a gear hes probably going to get behind you and pull you over for something stupid, chances are you're haulin *** anyway. But when you tear up ~3 mile long back roads at night shooting flames big enough to light up the street everytime you redline it certainly adds to the fun factor in the car, to say the least.

Would getting a test pipe effect the performance and the ability to blow flames? An after market header is on my list of things to buy.

Flames are cool, but modifying your car with the specific purpose to throw them is rather lame.

Your car probably isn't throwing flames because it's not running unnecessarily rich. This is a good thing.

A properly tuned RX-7 won't throw flames that often.

I agree. They're cool, but in most cases only to the people that are driving behind you. Just means you get stared at more (if you have to DD your car) when you're at a red light and the occasional OMFG IS THAT THING TURBOOO!

+1 to that. I like the flames too, but I'm not gonna mod my exhaust for that specific purpose. It just doesn't make much sense to me...
