My rotor symptoms

I have been having some serious issues with my rotor lately that I thought I'd address with the rotary community to possibly find out if the engine is done for. so one of the main things that concern me is that i put a new alternator and belt on a little over 2 months ago and the belt has been wearing away until last night when it finally snapped after i heard it slipping and smelled burnt rubber. I was wondering if one of the rotors is shot? i pulled the plugs and did the home compression test and it seemed good both ports were shooting pretty much the same. i pulled the water pump assembly today and i was turning the main shaft (eccentric shaft) it felt somewhat stiff sometimes being a little stiffer on different turns. could this mean a shot rotor? I am going to be searching the net for this answer and thought id post here meanwhile to get advice from someone personally. I dont have funds to do a rebuild at the moment but I would like it to last until i can do a rebuild (when i get a garage to tear apart greasy stuff) thanks for any help guys.

No.

In all likelihood your pulleys are misaligned or the tension is wrong which have nothing to do with it being a rotary.

You probably put the spacer for the alternator on the wrong side.

i have it on the backide of it no the front. are you talking about the one on the bracket that you loosen to take the belt off or the one to take the entire alternator off?

There is only one spacer and it is on the actual mount for the alternator to the engine, not the tensioner bracket. So the way you worded it, I am talking about the bolt to take the whole alt. off. There should not be any type of spacer on the tensioner bracket. This is also assuming that you are running a stock alternator and not an upgraded one like fd, or ford taurus alt.

ok so i see a spacer on that mount. when looking at it from the passenger side the washer is on the left ear but not on the outside of it next to the nut but on the inside against the alternator itself. should it be with the nut?

This is one of those times where a picture is worth a thousand words. Put a new belt on the current assembly, take a picture of the alignment from the side of the car (most phones can pull this feat off without a struggle these days, and photobucket even lets you upload via phone).

But I digress, the 'spacer' should be BETWEEN the mounting ears of the alternator, not outside of the mounts. How you are describing it, sounds like the spacer is in the proper position. Curiously, does your alternator or water pump spin freely? Are the pulley's themselves 'true' and unwarped?

I am going to have to inspect them. i took all the pulleys off yesterday to put a gasket on the water pump front cover and placed them back on TIGHT and secure as possible. the alternator is a re manufactured one from usa industries so it is possible it is warped. and stock main pulleys ha who knows what theyre condition is. going to do a taurus or gm alt swap soon cuz i didnt know i purchased a 60 amp alt from them. which surprisingly works but not as good now with my efan setup. SO I will be getting a dual sheave pulley and i guess ill get new pulleys on the main shaft just to be 100% they arent warped.

Pic is on its way. my phone is shitty but ill giver a go

oh and for some reason my air pump looks like it is misaligned like its further out then the rest of the main pulleys its supposed to be lined with. just a hair though. youll see in pics hopefully

feel the alternator to see if it is getting hot very quickly when cold, indicating that the alternator or battery are faulty. if the alternator is overheating it can cook the belt. also don't crank on the belt tension too much, it doesn't have to be super tight. could also just be really cheap belts, get the better quality ones over the $7.99 specials..

yeah i got a 15 dollar 3 year warranty belt some brand called gayle or something. was the best one the auto parts store had for my car. and YES my alternator get hot quick. 60 amps aint **** even for just having my lights on and pressing the brakes. got my alt checked it tested good but it does heat up like a ****. its only a few months old and i only do around town driving. went to my parents out of town the other night and thats when it snapped. probably a 150 mile trip altogether. ive been watching the belt becuz ive noticed it has been wearing away the past few weeks. cant wait for that 130 amp alt swap!
