Is my Racing Beat streetport template wrong?

I bought the 13Bt streetport intake template and it doesn't seem to fit my plates right (which are 4 port 13Bt plates). I cut out the template right up to the scribed line, not into nor past it, there should be absolutely no problems with that detail. I read at least 20 threads trying to find if someone had this question before, too.

The opening edge of the secondary ports opens before the template does, by about 1/8". According to the template, the outer edge will be pushed out a maximum of 3/32", but most of it is about 1/16". The control ring edge is nearly a perfect fit as far as being flush and the closing edge looks normal. However the control ring edge on the template is a tiny bit farther out than the stock ports near the closing edge.

Are you just not supposed to use the RB sp template for the secondaries? It wouldn't make sense to me though if you were... I mean why not modify the shape of the secondaries some? Or maybe they made the template smaller than the secondaries because they couldn't/didn't want to make it any bigger for the primaries.

In short, I need to know if this template is ok to use. Sorry the pictures aren't great, but I think in this case the description is more important than the pictures.

That measures would be no a problem on the secondaries. The important stuff here is that you can open the port into the oil ring seal area.

I just want to clarify on this since there are some typos. So, I can use the template on both primaries and secondaries?

And I don't understand your second sentence at all. We're supposed to stay clear of the control ring areas... Which this template does, it doesn't go into the control ring area. The thing that confuses me about the oil control ring line is that the templates cover up part of the intake port, out from the control ring area. It only does so by maybe a millimeter, but it is there, so I'm wondering if I can cut more out of the template so my primary openings would be bigger...

I was careful to cut the template straight, there's almost no determinable slope in my cut all the way around.

That looks like just a primary port template to me......you can take alot more out of the secondaries than that

when i got mine along time ago it was a full sheet with a primary port in one corner and a secondary port in the other....From Racing Beat

I hope you have a steadier hand doing the irons than you did cutting the template

yeah, all the ports can measure the same. That is the modification that I have on my engine. And my engine ports measure the same. And also I have bridge ports on the secondary ports.

I bought the same one and it didn't fit the best on the dowels. Like the holes in the template were to far apart and it wanted to buckle up. The template is for both the secondary and primary ports. There were areas on the template that didn't match the factory port (material gone) also.

There is a good thread on porting right now in the rotary performance section.

Check it out and don't be offended (because I know you have been here a while and post in the lounge a lot) but search that specific forum. Lots of good tips and some more info on the RB template.

I wouldn't mind copying the template so I could modify its shape a little for the purpose of opening up the secondaries a little more. However, whatever I do to it needs to still work with a basically stock ECU and it would be nice to not sacrifice much low end torque (although I guess that's determined more by the primary ports, isn't it?).

Thanks for the links and tips. I at least now feel confident in the template, that was my main concern. I've already done a fair bit of research on porting, watched the Mazdatrix porting video, and I have most the tools I'll need (still need to get a split mandrel from RB). I should have pics of my practice irons soon, as I will be working on them today.
