7K RPM RedLine tach? It looks like the car already has a TurboII tach....just waiting for the rest of the TurboII parts huh? Nice project, good luck. Always loved the look of the 89+ cars.

EDIT: added the redline...that's what I meant

Heh, just the boot is for a stick shift, the pedals need to be swapped, I also need to give it a nice cleaning. And I was planning on painting the dif black or just undercoating it. What I find odd about that tach is that it's for an automatic, it has the P R N D S L lights on it for an automatic, so I'm not quite sure whats with that, I'm going to end up replacing the face of it so those lights no longer show up. Quite the project, but hopefully I'll have it running soon

So far, I have the rear end in place, the driveshaft is bolted in, and the transmission is awaiting the release cylinder. If all goes well it will be running by the end of February.

Well, I have a 6 car garage, with about $30,000 in tools alone! Oh yeah, nothing beats a cutting wheel(HEHE) Had to use that to get the exhaust down. The rest has gone pretty easily so far, did the rear end/etc all in about 3 hours or less.

So far here's what I've accomplished:

Reassembled the interior (little parts missing here and there)
Dropped the old exhast (damn catalytic converters, had some custom mufflers tho)
Swapped out the original rear end for a S4 LSD
Bolted in the automatic driveshaft
Cleared out some of the engine bay
Removed old ecu (89 NA)
Removed Automatic key lock (locks the damn key in the ingition unless in park$@#)*$@#$)*!@$)
Rewired my fog lights so that they turn on whenever I hit the switch, even if brights/etc are on.

Working on:
Custom transmission mount (my T2 mount doesnt line up with the old automatic)
12" LCD Screen (mounts in place of radio)
Finding a Series 5 wiring harness/ECU
Replacing a few missing interior parts
Adding taillights
Making headlights stay on while in down position
Reparing/repainting/rustproofing the underbody & sanding out rust on rear-wheel wells

To be done:
J-Spec Series 5 T2
A'pexi AVC-R
True dual header to true dual straight exhaust w/no mufflers (michigan is good for something)
Border Type II Front end/w skirts (I like my original bumper!)

Cool

That is way cool man. Sounds like a killer project. Can I come work on my car in your garage, if I'm very nice???

Seriously though, how long and how hard was it to swap out the rear end? I am about to change mine on my s5 and I am trying to get an idea of how much trouble this is going to be for me. Thanks for the info, and keep up the good work on your project. Oh, what tools did you need for it too, since I am at school and my supplies are limited.

Well, since my bolts weren't all too rusted, and I have a couple of air guns, it took me about 2 hours or so nonstop, though I didn't really drain the differntial oil like I should have (oh well and I didn't put any back in yet, but the hardest part for me was getting the exhast down (those damn rubber hangers SUCK) The rest came generally easy, I had a jack under the rear end so it wouldn't fall, then I just unbolted it accordin to the manual, and that was that. I'm sure you could do it with sockets/etc, may take a while longer, but it is doable.

Cool

Thanks man. I appreciate the advice. I am sure if I follow the Haynes manual I should be fine. Is the stuff about draining the fluid in the book too? I have a full set of sockets and mine shouldn't be too rusted either. I just reeplaced my exahust so I should have not much trouble with the hangers.

Uhm, I just printed off those PDF manuals that have been going around the web and used those as my guide, and they mention drain the differntial before removing it, I didn't bother, just leaked, nothing major though.

Here are some pictures of my drivetrain, just put together to get an overall length measurement (NOTE: the driveshaft/differential are now all black, the tranny is cleaned up a lot more) I'll get pics when I get back from my vacation of the painted rear-end
