Wow. I'd have to say that's one of the beefiest hybrids i've seen. Nice work.

It looks like it will. Only issue will be fitting around the oil coolant lines but they should fit since the blanket could be compressed some.

Yea I know what you mean except hills suck during break in. Enjoy the good gas mileage while you can because one you finish the break in youll be boosting all the time haha.

Here's a pic to show the scale of the turbo plus the 1000cc injectors I got as well the the rotor and housing I painted. It's painted with metalcast if anybody is interested.

Damn, that's pretty cool. Has anyone ever tried to anodize the housings? That'd be neat...

Yea I saw that powdercoated housing and loved it so I had to copy it except I spent $12 on spray cans. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery or something like that haha.

Good news and bad news:

good news: got the turbo in without too much hassle

bad news: I'm leaking a buttload of oil through the hotside. Hondahater what'd you do to fix that? Just a restrictor? Do you still leak oil? Looks like I'm getting bit with some bad luck for trying to make my car fast too lol.

Anyways here are some comparison pix between my hybrid and the stocker.

I just had my tuner send out the turbo and build it according to the hp goals I had and that's what he came up with.

I believe it was. I remember you saying that a certain place has had issues with their turbo rebuilds. I'm guessing it's them.

No problems at all. I did have to clock the compressor housing to get it to line up with my #1 greddy fmic pipe.

So, did you buy this new, or what? Was the guy you dealt with there named Jeff?

Details, yo, details! The shop in question is Turbo Auto in Nashville TN, the guy running it is Jeff. STAY AWAY!

Yep, that guy built, at last count, 10 bad turbos in a row for me and my customers.

I initially sent him 2 stock turbos for rebuilding/hybridizing at the rate of $550 each. Those came back in lightning quick time, less than a week. I installed one on a customer's car, the other one sat on the shelf as a spare. When the customer took his car home, the compressor nut came off while driving, the wheel hit the housing making awful noise, chewed everything up, and dumping oil into the exhaust...leaving him stranded on the interstate in rural SC late at night. I had to take my truck and dolly and go get his car and bring it back to TN, even though this wasnt my fault.

I then swapped his bad turbo with the other one on the shelf that was spare, and sent the bad one in for warranty repair. In the meantime the customer decides to send his car into a local paint shop, where it sat for 2 months. When he returned to pick the car up, it was smoking out the exhaust and in the engine bay...come to find out, it was leaking oil from the seam between the cartridge and turbine housing. After much bitching (again, not my fault), I had to install a stock turbo right then and there on a sunday afternoon, and send him on his way, along with his (second) bad turbo.

Later, when he got back home, he sent the bad turbo back in. Jeff refused to warranty it, saying that I must be doing something wrong to tear them up. The customer paid another $550 to get it repaired again. HE reinstalled it himself later, and teh compressor nut came off in less than an hour.

Later when the other turbo came back from repair, I eventually used it on my turbo 'vert. I ran it several months and it seemed to do okay, but it spooled slow as ****, we're talking t88 slow. I eventually pulled it off in favor of a stocker, and it had been leaking a bit of oil out the turbine/center seam for quite some time, I just hadnt noticed it. I wound up selling that turbo, of course mentioning the defects ahead of time.

Before the 2nd and 3rd bad turbo, I had recomended him to some other customers and friends. One customer sent a stocker in and got it built and hybridized, and put it in and had an oil leakage problem at the turbine housing. He sent it back in for warranty repair and when it came back I believe he sold it before ever testing it himself.

One of the locals sent his son's turbo in for the same service. When I installed it it leaked oil between the turbine and center section quite badly, so we pulled it off and sent it back in. He sent another one back, and I installed it. It initially leaked some oil out between the cartridge and turbine, but after about half an hour it seemed to stop. I drove it around some, and it spooled slow as ****, losing a whole carlength to a stock turbo'd t2 from a 30 roll. Since it seemed okay I sent it home with the customer, and later the compressor nut came off. He removed it in favor of a stocker and the car was fine from then on.

I think there's a couple more floating around that I just can't remember. That's at least 7 documented cases right there, over the course of probably 6 months. This guy is the turbo industry's equivalent of Hayes Rotary, and I have no clue how he stays in business.

Damn that's alot of bad stuff I'm reading. I dont know who exactly built it but I'll be seeing my tuner today and get all the details. My tuner actually used to live in TN I believe so may know them personall but I'll find all that out. I actually pulled the backplate off and there wasnt any oil in it or the hotside. It may have just been the oil lines not being tight enough but I havent started it up again. I'll update when I find out about who built the turbo and what happens tomorrow when I start it up.

well that was happening on the bnr until he made the oil restrictor lines so you may look into that if this starts happening to your turbo.

Good news guys. It's not leaking anymore. It was actually leaking through both the oil feed and returns lines and dripped all over the place. The new OEM gaskets werent thick enough or something so I just cut my own thicker gaskets and solved the problem. I had the bolts tightened down all the way and then some almost messing up the threads so that's why I went with thicker gaskets. I guess I jumped to conclusions with some experiences I have read. Need to finish the short break in before I start boosting!

FWIW turbo auto did build it but my tuner has had many turbos sent there for rebuilds without problems.

Hey, you might have a 1/10 like I had on my vert...the thing held together for months, many 15psi pulls. Had a little evidence of oil leakage onto the turbine housing, but other than that it worked fine.

I'm curious to hear your opinion of it's spool time when you start using boost. A hybrid shouldnt spool like a stocker, but it shouldnt be far off since it's pretty much the same turbine. Yet all the ones we used here spooled like dogshit. Everyone commented on it, and it was obvious that you just lost time in a race by installing it. We used them on everything from stockport engines to mild streetports to large streetports with full fuel mods.
