A decent straight pipe will decently increase your decent engine's stock power (which is pretty decent already!). A decent intake will give you a small decent increase in air flow. A decently executed search will give you many decent results with decent information. Thats my decent opinion on this decent topic about decent exhaust and decent intake systems.

that will most definately make a noticable difference. while you're doing that you might want to check your cats to find out if they've died or not. my friend's 89's cats were fried and when he ripped them out and replaced with straight pipe that made a bigger difference than changing his exhaust out.

yeah if you put a race pipe in you will need to wire your auxilary ports open or find another way of making them open. I would just get a pre-silencer from racing beat with a header and a nice cat-back. That would probably give you like 20hp

Racing beats pre-silencer comes with a split air tube connection so your auxilary ports (5th & 6th port actuators) fuction like stock. If you get someting else, you'll have to wire the ports open.

check www.racingbeat.com or www.mazdatrix.com for exhaust systems.

cat-backs do almost nothing for power. Even after getting my header/presilencer the only improvement the cat-back made was in the sound dept.
Oh yeah, my cone filter also made zero difference, but it only cost me $25.

a pre-silencer is basically a straight through muffler.

Depending on the muffler(s), size of pipe, quality of the presilencer, yes.

Get some header's and the rb presilencer(so you don't have to wire the ports open), then get an exhaust shop to fab u up everything after the pre-silencer.
