My engine rebuild process

I thought I share some of my experience with rebuilding my engine.

here are some pics

my housings seem to look "ok" theres no major grooves and dents, but there is some minor scratching (just enough to catch my nail on it) done by the small apex seal. is this a bad thing?

Can someone define a "usuable" housing?

also Iam going to be replacing my front rotor housing with a spare rear rotor housing (better condition), now i know there was an issue about emmisions, does this apply to:

A. a motor with 2 rear housings
B. a motor with 2 front housings? .
C. a motor with rear and fron switched?

ill get some more pics of the housing soon.

what the hell is that big triangle thingy???

seriously though, when I was getting my engine rebuilt, the guy (Adam) say that any scars, that you can even feel with your finger nails, its done. needs to be refinised or what not.

Nope you can't refinish a housing, you must replace it with either a good used one or a new one.

Small grooves are ok, but if you can catch your nail on it, its toast.

well from what I've been told, mazda has a hardening process that they say is removed once you refinish or "lap" them. It would be pretty hard rebuilding engines with only new or good condition housings when considering the fact that many engine failure is due to blown apex seals which end up scaring the housings. Each time that happens less and less housings would be available, but of course that is not the case.

Take some pics of the housing scratches -- I'm sure people could tell you if they're ok or not with the pics. I believe you can use 2 rear rotors, but i'm not sure. You oughtta doublecheck

Front and rear rotor housing are interchangable as long as they are the same series.
