Isn't that position illegal for track inspection?

I can't find one single reference to it being illegal to mount the FPR on the firewall, there are however rules against using mechanical gauges plumbed inside the cockpit.

Last time I tried this they came over and told me to stop at 7pm saying it was too late! So yah...
It's tomorrow, any news?

Bad news, no start.

Spent all day filling fluids, buying the last few misc things I needed, gaskets, sealants, putting it all together, wrapping the harness in loom, running vac line to the MS, etc etc etc.

Then no start. I spent 2 hours checking things and trying to start it, no luck. Getting fuel, fuel pump is powered properly, MS is powered properly, everything seems to be working. Except for spark... I am getting no spark when cranking, not sure why. I tested all of the wiring at the MS connector and at its destination for the coils and CAS and all the wiring shows correct continuity, so wiring looks fine. Not sure what it is yet, I'm tired and its dark out now so I'll research and then tackle this another day.

Sorry I wasn't able to deliver the video I promised! Hopefully soon...

Nope. A tuner told me the tach may not necessarily move during cranking and I should hook my laptop up to the MS and see if I'm getting any rpm signal.

But like I said, no spark at all at either of the coils. I have some things I'm going to check next time I'm working on it, but that may not be until Tuesday or Thursday, because I need to finish up some homework tomorrow and begin studying for my first exam in one of my classes. No clue how much time I'll have.

the tach needle won't move on crank with the megasquirt because trailing doesn't fire on crank... trailing won't fire until you get to 800 rpms after the engine starts.

You'll definitely need to hook the laptop to the ms ... in fact I wouldn't even have tried to start it w/o hooking it to the laptop. You'll want to make sure you're getting a signal from the CAS by making sure you're getting an rpm on the tach in megatune. You should be between 200 and 300 rpms when cranking.

Most likely there's some kind of wiring problem...

Wiring is very enjoyable. It's simple, it's stress free and you can get into the "zone". Even in a noisy shop, wiring seems to be a "quiet" activity that fools your brain into ignoring everything else. It's one of the really few jobs besides body work and porting that you can apply art and finesse to. A properly built wiring harness that is intelligently routed and designed is a thing of beauty.

It's also very easy, I'm not sure why so many people have problems doing it, as long as you take the time to lay everything out and organize it, it goes together like a breeze. It's amusing watching some people just screw around with it and wire everything up, realize something is too short, extend it, realize they extended the wrong wire, etc. Orginization goes a long way!

I think people who can't multi-task have a hard time with electrical wiring.
Because you need to keep track of several things are once, if you can't do that, you will have a hard to time, period.

I don't find it enjoyable, even though I got paid to do it.
I find it very tedious!

Don't even get me started.... I often find myself thrown into a wiring project that someone else started. The **** I see...Amazing that someone will spend $1500 on a standalone yet totally drop the ball when it comes to wiring it up.

Gettin a hair off-topic, but I've been hauled out to fix a car before that the owner self-installed a standalone in, needless to say, he ran a 10 gauge wire for the injector power leads, and he put a crimp-on connector on the 10 gauge, then he tied the 4 wires together, and crimped them in the other end, needless to say there was bare wire exposed that was hitting the block and shorting, and upon further inspection most of the entire harness was thrown together this way, it was absolutely terrible to look at, pretty much had to junk the harness and order a new one and start over.

I don't enjoy wiring, but I also don't find it hard.

First standalone install and everything worked except the coils. **** I'm happy! More worked than I expected. So far the actual WIRES for the CAS and coils have continuity from the MS connector to the end, so it's either a crossed wire somewhere, or I inserted the wires into the wrong pin position on the MS connector. Next step is go go back over each pin position/wire to make sure its in the right slot and goes to the correct destination.

Maybe it'll run today? Nah.. I'm not going to get my hopes up

Hmmm... yah that was a pic from today when RXSevenSymphonies and I were troubleshooting the no spark issue. He's retarded, so ignore the random pic

Anways, update I guess? MS is communicating with my laptop now, wiring seems good but might have a crossed couple of wires depending on the outcome of some tests I'm running tomorrow, CAS signal seems to work because fuel is injected when I spin the gear (RPM on MS is decoded through CAS rather than trailing coil), and some other stuff. Accidently dropped my TB onto the alternator post and blew the main fuse, oops! Going to replace that and then get back to work tomorrow.
