my custom air box

you'll have to forgive the nasty paint in the engine bay, the box is .060 alum with 1/4-20X3/8 button caps holding on the top which has 2" X .250 louvers, the only thing i have left to do is finish off the edges with some weather stripping and enlarge the hole in the body

i aslo have a tri-rear strut tower bar ,tri-front strut tower bar and a lower tie barthat i will be finishing up in the next couple weeks ill throw some pictures of them up as i finish them

Very nice! The louvers are cool but are just going to encourage hot engine bay air into the box.

Did you make the louvers yourself? With a punch press or something?

great craftsmanship but why reinvent something that came stock which is suppose to be pretty good? if cold air boxes where good, more aftermarket companies would make them. The stock air box is already like a cold air drawing its source from the front of the car.

There was a guy here who made one out of a trash can lol

Looks real good. You could post up some templates with dimensions for anyone trying to make a box. How did you make the louvers?

this box would work better than the stock airbox assuming it is drawing fresh air from underneath or around the headlights somehow. but there's no pictures of how it's ducted so no one knows.

i agree with the louvers statement, they should have been omitted and a flat sheet surround used. also use some sort of seal against the engine bay to box to seal it up so no hot air can get in.

i have it ducted in from underneath the car so i figured that when driving the car the air would flow through and kinda keep the hot engine ari from being sucked in and i stated in the opening post the only thing i had left to do was seal the box to the engine bay

Looks good. Very similar approach to what I took for my car: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/diy-cold-air-box-830116/.

True, so long as the flapper is sideways, it doesnt matter. Nice fab work, can you show pics of how air will get into the box?

In my opinion an air intake passage should be completely closed (as in airtight) from the opening in the bodywork, to the intake of the engine.
