My CAT GLOWING??!!

Hey guys, I got a 88 vert and my car starts rough and wont idle, and im thinking it was the catalytic converter because last night it was glowing red and had a huge crack on the side, so i changed it earlier and just drove it for 20 min, then i came home and noticed it was glowing even more, a BRAND NEW one too, what could be causing this? Thanks in advanced.

exessive fuel, may not getting burned off properly and getting super heated in your cat convert.

Is you car making a good amount of power? is your fuel milage terrible? Average FC n/a's should get something in the area of 20 mph highway...

good luck, be careful not to park on any tall grass or dry leaves....

sounds like it might be dumping to much fuel into the exhaust. also, is that the right cat for your car? if its not the right one it might not be able to handle the heat of rotary exhaust gasses.

check the o2 sensor, it could be burnt causing it to run way rich(atleast i think thats what happens). also check your air control valve, it may not be pumping fresh air into your exhaust. thats all i can tell you, to me that souns like a rare problem. ive never heard of it. i know that the moderators will propably help more than i can, but theres my crack at it!

your welcome!

Ok, your in NC? i would guess you have NO smog laws correct?

go to www.Rx7.com.....2nd gen rx-7 section.... read literature on bonez race pipe..... ohhh ahhhh.... purchase if need be.

or go all out, purchase a new RB header, RB midpipe, and dual RB's out the back.... Funds providing of course..

good luck

Or instead of wasting a bunch of money, you can just go to your local muffler shop and have them install a pipe in it's place for $20.

That happened to mine when the trailing plug wires got reversed. Switch them and see if it makes a difference. And don't drive too long with a glowing cat, you will wreck it.
