Unhappy My car sucks.

Argh.. My car sucks! My friend just got a g-tech... and while I know the numbers aren't accurate, it should be good for comparison between our cars..

He has a 98 neon, dohc, with a boatload of mods.. intake, header, cat-back, pulley, computer, bigger TB.. and for the suspension, wheels with dunlop W-10's (205/45/16), and springs...

I have cone intake, ported TB funnel, mid-pipe.. I did a tuneup maybe 2000 miles ago (o2, plugs, wires, tps adj, initial set, fuel filter).. I'm due for an oil change (tommorow) And i have wheels with kumho ecsta supra 712's (225/50/16) on them..

And ****.. I ran a best of 16.78 (REALLY bogged it tho.... excuses, excuses), and he ran a 16.32.. Both of us in the car for each. He had more gas, too. Both of us had spare tires in.

But that doesn't bother me so much.. I knew his car was faster.. I was just hoping to beat him on the lateral g's..

He pulled a best of 1.0 instantaneous, and 0.92 continuous.. My best was 0.98 inst, and **0.84** continuous! My car is supposed to be 0.86 STOCK! wtf!? Is this due to my 13 year old stock suspension? It was in my 88 gxl, btw..

I suck. Someone make me feel better.

Ok this is the neon that "out performed" Tesla

Let me make you feel a little better bud.

My car purchase price: $12,500
Header, Coated: $220
Intake: $190
Cat-Back Exhaust: $125, then another $300 or so in others
Underdrive Pulley: $180
A bunch of throttle bodies (need to go back to big!): $240+$30
PCM Reprogram: $375
Wires: $100
Intake Manifold porting/polishing: Way too much time
Wheels: $600
Tires: $350
Springs: $160

Add it up and tell me you wouldn't be crying.

And all I'm pulling is a 16.02@89.4.. how crap is that?! This damn g-tech has ruined my self-esteem

Then again, no one expects the lil ol neon to blow by them.

Yeah.. My running total for my car (not counting gas and oil changes) is, according to my logs, 3214.93$, including car purchase cost.

still..

ahhhhhhhh, don't worry about it man. i tried a gtec once on my n/a and it said i only had 80 horsepower............and it said my friends 93 integra LS had 320 (LOL! with only AEM intake) so don't make any life decisions on it

hehe...also, as much as i hate to admit it...the neons can be pretty quick. my roomate used to have a 98 i guess DOHC one (RT motor in a base body) and it was pretty nice. had a lot more torque than my n/a

As an engineer (even though I'm still training) I can say that these G-Tech devices are basically bullshit. They're set up with a ton of calculations to make them "accurate" when really they just put more limitations on how accurate they can be. I don't really believe anything that can work on any vehicle ever made and still say it's accurate.

It's not so much the absolute numbers that bother me.. It's how I compared to someone else, using the same g-tech, in the same lot.. I don't think our test was all that accurate or good, but it was the same test for both cars. I was just disappointed that my lateral g's turned out to be significantly lower than his..

Ok.. a few things about the G-tech... im told that in order to get any accurate rating ... you first have to weigh the car with you in it, and the exact amount of gas you have that day etc... to get accurate results !! ... Furthermore..your time of 16.78 seems a little slow to me they run 16.5 stock at least ... do you have your emmisions equipment entact still??? if so maybe you should consider removing it... that will help quite a bit....

You don't have to enter your weight for the 1/4 or to do the lateral g's.. you do in order to calculate HP, but we didn't do that.. The comparison is accurate, even if the numbers themselves are not..

I have no air pump.. I have a bonez midpipe replacing all 3 cats, but a stock manifold.. I think the mufflers are aftermarket, but i don't think they're "good".. It's loud as hell.. even with the cats still on, it was MUCH louder than my 87 was, and it seems to have a stock exhaust. a/c and p/s belts removed.. I bet the bog hurt me around 0.5 seconds.. It was REAL bad.. Tried to launch at 4k, ended up starting at like 1200.. No wheelspin at all. I think my clutch is slipping, too......at least when I dump it.

bleh.. The 1/4 mile doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as the lateral g comparison.. I really thought i could out grip his neon.. I bet springs/structs would really help.. 13 years can't be good for the stock ones..heh

Well, the numbers say I have better handling, but that's to be expected considering I just replaced my struts (OEM replacements, not the adjustable Koni's unfortunately) and have installed stiffer lowering springs.

However, I think the G-Tech is complete CRAP. It may be great for baseline/after mod testing but as far as real-world numbers goes.. No. I just took the neon out and had an all-time best 1/4 run of 15.91@91.something My car is supposed to be faster than this STOCK. I've seen dynos of cars modified like mine and the graphs tell a different story. Maybe I just can't drive

A lot of work has gone into my car, and I expect it to be a lil quicker than a mildly modded NA 7, but I think both of our numbers suck as far as real-world goes.
