My Car Is One Big Loose Connection

ok theres so many small things wrong with my car it makes me sick
the speakers suck....
the idiot guage works when it wants (no dice on the clock of course)
the door open light works for the passenger door, but not the drivers side (i can fix that though...)
and everything else that should work, doesnt...

my biggest question though, is sometimes my alarm seems like it works, beeps etc, but only when its real cold it seems....how can i fix this...where can i check for loose wires for the alarm or shorts or whatever.....is there one spot to check before all or should i jsut say **** it and drive like i have been....

For the speakers well honestly I am not into FC's for the BASS I want it to be fast. the idiot lights are easily fixable with the use of a solder gun and some good solder. cost me about 8 dollars to fix. That takes care of the lights and the clock. My car does not have an alarm so I can't help on that sorry. I also have an intermittent problem with the open door light but it is the sensor and all i need is a new one.

yeah the drivers side door light doesnt work becuase i a new one of those things that the door presses in when it closes to turn the light off...thats the easy part..
the speakers are not a concern right now as i will be replacing them soon enough anyway.......i was just putting all that in there for filler and examples of how the electrical system is shitty......
the main question is the alarm......if it has worked once or twice surely that means its loose some where or has a short or something like that....
i just need to know where to look for this connection/bad wires in order to help touble shoot this...
i would love for the alarm to work again....
and about the resolder....how long does this take on average...i have a friend that is gonna do ir for me, but i dont want to be riding around without a cluster there, so i need to know how much time to alot....i assume hes pretty handy with it so surely it wouldnt take too long

You should expect a 15+ year old speaker to be crap. I would blame the owner for not replacing them 10 years ago when they were worn out then. Speakers are like brake pads, shocks, clutches, PDs; they all need replacing and wear out. Thinking the speakers are a fine example of a poor electrical system and talking **** about them in a 15 year old car shows a lot of ignorance on your part.

I would be happy to resolder your idiot lights/clock for $20+ shipping. I can ship it out the next day after I receive it... so based on what you want to pay for shipping would be how fast you get it back.

Or you can do it yourself if you or your friend are handy with a low wattage soldering iron and a solder sucker. Its only about a 20 minute job to do all the joints. Take in mind, that done incorrectly you will distroy the idiotlight/clock panel.

Sounds like your door trigger has problems and that is why your security system is not working. I would fix that first, then check out the security system.

Sorry, if I offended you. But I will call it on anyone that talks about stuff that isn't even related to the car. Hell Mazda didn't even make the speakers. Mitsubishi or Pioneer did.

Would you have called any other 15 year old car; a car with a crappy electrical system that had the same problem? maybe a Honda, or a Ford? They must have a poor electrical system too if their speakers didn't last 15 years. Have you even looked at the speakers yet? So yes, your comments made you look ignorant. Sorry of that bugs you.

i think you just misunderstood me....
i wasnt refering to the original electrical specs applied by mazda....i was refering to the state mine is in now....shitty.....
and besides the point.....i didnt mean for the speakers to become the topic of discussion here...like i said im replacing them later on....
the main question was about the alarm and where to check for loose/messed up wires etc.....
by the way...
let me get this right...the door trigger also works the alarm???
it seems obvious now that i think about it, but before it never occured to me

the soldering took me about 25 minutes as it was the first thing I soldered but it was straight forward. If your friend know what he is doing he could proly do it in 15 min. the door thing proly causes the alarm not to function. I think that is logical since the alarm has to know whemn the doors are opened and stuff like that.

When i got my alarm i thought they installed it wrong. But all it needed was new door sensors. I think they are 8 bucks a piece from mazda. They are a cinch to install. for it is only a ground detector.

Electrical in these cars can be finiky, that's why I like my GX model. Shure the windows need to be cranked, but they work! I got my car from the original owner and he said that the internal lighting starting acting up within a couple years of owning the car.

That wasn't an attack or anything, I was just sayin'. :P

As for speakers I've found that if you plan on keeping the stock amps keep the stock speakers.
The ones on my 88 GX were made by samsung and have 10 watts RMS 25 watts MAX power handling. Unless the speakers have visible/audible signs of wear (cracks, hisses, rattles or look brittle) just keep them. They ain't so bad. I put in a new Headunit and they work just fine. Sounds much better than with the stock tapedeck. No doubt that some new speakers and amps will help in sound quality, but in order to improve it by a noticable margin your lookin a some $$$$(which i don't have anymore).

A good soldering iron and a few new switches and you can have everything working in a few days. It's just time and a little frustrating at times. The wreckers is a great place too!

Sorry I jumped all over you then!... No hard feelings

anyway, yes if the alarm does not see both doors and the hatch close it will not arm correctly.

You may wish to take the switch out and clean the contacts. maybe your buddy with the soldering iron can put down a new layer of solder at the contact points (which would effectivly repair any electrical issues with the switch).
