my car is f***ed

So i change the coolant today and i get the engine wet.... it is all screwed up black smoke blue smoke... and it wouldn't go over 3000....so in 2nd go up to 3 thousand.....slam it back in first so the wheels pull the rotors up past 3000 and it takes off.... I let it idle for a while and then it seems fine again. I tried adjust the TPS (might have screwed up) so i go to leave the house and then engine has been idling for about 15 mins so the engine is warm.....but no its not warm its ****** hot....about 6/8ths of the way to hot....so i drive away and it starts to sputter for a bit and then POP POP back fires i think i saw some flammage but....i want to know wtf is going on here?? any ideas guys???

is that all you did? change the coolant? did you have an intake leak beforehand? some water/coolant may have been sucked into the engine...and water does not compress.

reguarding overheating, did you flush the coolant out real good? did you let it run w/o the cap to ensure all the air gets out? how's the thermostat? just a few things you may want to think about to find your problem.

try not to drive the car at all until you check the cooling system...without that functioning well, engine life will be short-lived.

thanks man!

I had not thought of running the car without the cap on to get all the air out.

I will change the thermostat and i will re-check the TPS i'm pretty sure i screwed it up..

Good news is it does not sound like you got Water inside your engine, if you did it would not even turn over, unless it came out the exhaust somehow. Maybe when you got the engine wet you got it on some electrical or something and something major is shorting out? I dunno, just an idea, I honestly am not really sure about what it could be. Good luck with it though man, sucks when cars stop working properly.

Best of luck on your situation, sorry I cannot add much advice, I cannot think of anything it could be really.

well first off coolent IS Flamable, I have seen it ignite on 2 occurences, 1 on my 89 gtu, and 2 on my 88 TII, check for any melted wires or anything over the exhuast manifold, gettting you engine wet shouldn't mess up you TPS so if you "tried" to adjust it you may have made the problem worse, check and recheck all the coolent caps, if anything is leaking ect...

Bleed the cooling system properly (follow the instructions in the Haynes manual) and then properly (with an ohmmeter) adjust the TPS.
