Unhappy 2 min surging, what gives?

Driving along at 3000 rpms yesterday my car lost all power and would not rev above 1500 rpms. I pull over and it idles fine but wont rev, After 2 min everything is back to normal and Im off for half a mile and the same thing happens. Took a while to get home that way ... lol. Even starting up cold this morning it would not rev above 1500 so I shut it off.
Car is 88, NA, 13b and 734 miles on new motor with no recent mods, Only has cone filter and cold air box that have been on for a long time. Sorry if this has been cover but I couldnt find anything in a search.

Thanks for your time, Kosh

wiring/connection problem, or tps/afm is where I would look at. I had a car do this once, and I would up grabbing the engine (pass.) wiring harness, shaking it a lot, and it worked fine from then on. Probably, in the process of removal and installation of the new engine, you have disturbed a brittle wire or connector.

There is not a set way to go about finding it, either. :-(

that has happened to me. When you punch the throttle it bounces off of 1500 rpm right?

It happenes to me when more often when I disconnect my battery to do work on my car. But eventually it goes away.

It also happens to me when my engine floods. Not when flooding but when I keep trying to start then back off the kay then try it again.

I seems like the cpu is going in a fail safe modew or limp mode.

Never been able to figure it out though. I just let it idle for 2mins then I just start to drive it. Afew blocks or so it finally just goes away. Go figure?

Thats what happens only now it wont go above 1500 at all, I really love this car but after owning it for 6 months I've only been able to drive it for 3 weeks because of all the breakdowns. Guess this is the last straw and its time to buy a real car.
